I doubt Forge will be monetized.
343 already has most of their active players avoiding the Shop.
Monotizing Forge, the one thing that can save this game since they are not focusing hands on Desync Fixes, would do more than put the nail in the coffin.
It would be akin to putting a railway spike into an urn with a railway gun from Fallout.
I can’t wait to judge maps based on their textures, blocks and budget and be able to gauge how much money was spent on.
Heck, the Custom Games Browser should be categorized by average price rather than gamemode or match size.
I really hope this never happens. So why pay for certain features that other ppl can play for free. That sounds so illogical to me. Either the paywall restricts content/matches behind those who only have that payed content.
It would just be lame to have to pay for certain features that you can use so that others can play it for free. That would really bother me tbh
Monetize Forge would be a big mistake. The comunity made a lot of good maps in the past. Remember Husky Raid of Halo 5. I think all Husky Raid maps were comunity maps.
If Forge would be monetized, why should the comunity develop maps for free?

Forge will be $1000 to buy rights to make a map, and you have that 1000 bucks as your budget to place objects. Trust me, my dad works for Microsoft.
Jokes aside, there will be monetization. 100%. How could they not? They basically made a product “free” in hopes it would just flood them with money but now that flopped belly up, they will definitely find every single way to monetize to meet their quarterly goals.
It could even be small stuff like “Forger’s Club” the way Roblox has done their “Builders Club” or things like players crafting armor for the game to be sold like Warframe does Tennogen.
F2P isn’t a mistake, but F2P without planning is the biggest mistake you can make in the game industry.

I would love for Forge to be monetized just for the entertainment of the resulting rage from the fan base.
I’m throwing random Arbiter limitations due to UI in the ring. Maybe you can’t save files with a space in the name; maybe for the first 3 months we can’t upload forge maps and share them because stuff; uploading costs money or needs a Gamepass subscription etc.

I’m sorry, but I can’t fathom why any rational thinking person would find this believable in the slightest. I get people are grouchy over the monetization of the battle pass and the cosmetics, but I haven’t seen any indication that 343 is going to start monetizing modes and features all while they’re trying to get more players in the door. Doesn’t make sense from a development persective. Doesn’t make sense from a marketing perspective.
That would be one of the dumbest things they could do.
Forge is a way for 343 to let the players make maps for free. Charging players for that will result in fewer top tier maps and therefore more work for 343.
To be fair, they’ve done tons of things that don’t make sense.
Oh, it’s gonna happen. If BMW can charge you $18 a month for heated seats in your car then 343 and Microsoft can surely figure out more ways to squeeze money out of this flaming bag of porch poop.
