343 CSR... Almost as Bad as Bungie

Let me start by saying, this is my first forum post EVER. I have become so discontent with my Halo experience, I’ve come to share my opinion.

This newly released CSR is not going to cut it. You cannot deliver a half-baked system to retain half of your audience (non-BTB players). The CSR through Waypoint is inconvenient, time consuming, and poorly developed.

I’m going to assume 343 doesn’t want to make ranks visible because it encourages boosting, quitting, competitive a**holes, selling accounts, etc. Isn’t there an easy way to avoid all of this? CSR should be displayed to the player only, IN-GAME. No other players would be able to see it. First, nobody will quit because of the other teams ranks being “too high”. Secondly, the selling of accounts will be very minimal, if at all. Nobody is going to buy an account without the proof of it being a 50. And even then, no one wants to brag about a 50 if it isn’t visible. Consider this “meeting in the middle” with your fans. Clearly, I am not the only one in discontent. Making CSR visible to the individual player will be a quintillion times easier (that much easier) than loading the obnoxiously slow “Halo Waypoint”.

The Waypoint “App” that you don’t even have on the Android marketplace, is frustratingly slow and unnecessary. I feel like I am running dial-up when I go to check my CSR. I don’t even know if you guys prepared for the amount of traffic online you generated with the release of CSR. I’m honestly surprised your servers haven’t crashed yet. No, instead, they’re barely clinging to life while I wait for my rank to display. And don’t even get me started about the system itself.

But guess what? I’ve started. I played a total of 10 Big Team games, and I was already a rank 39. But my friends and I play 10 games of CTF, and we struggle to get beyond the rank of 2. If that wasn’t bad enough, the credits aren’t even going to the correct game-type. My friend became a 2 in rumble pit, while ONLY PLAYING CTF. You waited a patient 6 MONTHS to roll out a disturbingly inadequate system.

If the only reason to keep the visibility of CSR online is to generate more “waypoint” traffic, then I pity your commitment to the loyal fan base Halo has come so far to achieve. I’ve been playing since 2005, and I’m finally considering putting my Halo days behind me. There is still hope. I understand you are marketing your game to a new crowd (and apparently are only seeing $$$), but you cannot ignore your foundation. Loyal fans are repeat purchasers. New, casual gamers, will not hesitate to walk away. The community is upset, and those who aren’t, have no idea how much better this game could be.

Thanks for your time. I pray for the day I can start enjoying Halo again.

I can support this.

Or!!! 343 can get rid of Bullet Magnetism and make it actually feel as if YOU THE PLAYER killed somebody other than some Godly Auto Aim.

What does this have to do with CSR? Did you even read his post?

We all want CSR visible in the game. It’s easier, faster, and would be more organized.

Or just have Ranked and Social playlists.

CSR is superficial and means nothing. its still the same old matchmaking system with just a meaningless 1-50 topped on. i still match the same incompetent players despite winning almost all of my games and searching 50 we are finding kids below csr 30. ive played probably 20 games searching 50 high and matched people who could walk and shoot at the same time once

343, please do something right

Ranked and social playlists would be ideal, but I don’t see 343i budging on that. They are trying to disassociate themselves with ranks altogether. Which is understandable, considering their target market (casual gamers). This is my best compromise. It allows for personal achievement without infringing on others.

I couldn’t agree any more with everything you said. They don’t even have an android app so for me to check my rank after a game I have to walk into the other room, login, refresh the page, wait for the page to load for a good 30 seconds then be prompted to login again… I re-enter my login information wait another 30 seconds see that my rank has gone down after winning a game. Walk back into the other room to start playing again. Its so frustrating its unbelievable.

Like honestly I don’t understand how they can just throw this half -Yoinked!- ranking system at us thinking it will please the competitive community. The very least they could do is try to have it in game instead of making pointless invalid excuses as to why they can’t.

Not only that you are always being ranked even if you want to play for fun. Also guests are allowed in “ranked” playlists. And don’t forget about join in progress I mean come on 343 listen to what your community wants. Its really not that hard.

-End Rant

I just joined a game in progress. We were losing 40 to 240. I came back and won the game with 2 triple kills, 2 frenzies, a killing spree and i went 26kills, 4 deaths. and guess what? I WENT DOWN A RANK! WHAT IN THE ABSOLUTE -Yoink-!

what does this have to do with bungie?

It has nothing to do with Bungie. And everything to do with Bungie. Bungie lost sight of what their fans truly enjoyed. Considering 343i is so new, I guess I can’t make such a direct comparison. It makes for a more attractive Post header than the typical “CSR sucks”.

I don’t think they lost sight of their fans truly enjoyed. In reach we had more custom stuff then any other halo game. We had most of the old game types plus awesome new ones. The only problem with Reach was AA’s and bloom and both can be taken out. If any thing Reach was a warning to -Yoink!- saying “don’t change the core gameplay”. And of course they didn’t listen.

Agree, Threw the complainers a bone so they can brag (in private or here I guess) since no one else can see it. But so far it doesn’t mean a whole hell of a lot to me and I don’t play at this point for some superficial ranking I just play to fill my commendations so I play with a different strategy then if I was loaded up with my preferred load out. So kinda unfair to release this now when I’m trying to get AR and Splaser mastered not to mention the covenant weapons I’ve yet to incorporate into the mix. Should have just used social/ranked list to begin with…

Your highest CSR is CSR36…what is all this searching for 50 you mention? You are not skilled/ranked high enough to play 50s yet!

I guess it changed the game differently for some people. They did a good job of trying to bring change, but essentially ended up over-reaching (no pun, seriously). Hit-scan was great, but bloom made it horrifying. They looked at Shadowrun’s success, and tried to carbon copy it. Forge reached ultimate highs, but too often became to much rendering for the 360’s processors. Ever tried staring from snipe-to-snipe on the Sanctuary remake? You were suddenly seeing things in 15 FPS. The title of this post was my quick jab at Bungie, but ironically, I miss their handling of Halo.

They have commented its not possible due to technical limitations. In other words, a game that was released in 2004 is more advanced than Halo 4.

I have a CSR of 2 and I’m good with that.

What does this thread have to with the amazing company that is Bungie?
