Let me start by saying, this is my first forum post EVER. I have become so discontent with my Halo experience, I’ve come to share my opinion.
This newly released CSR is not going to cut it. You cannot deliver a half-baked system to retain half of your audience (non-BTB players). The CSR through Waypoint is inconvenient, time consuming, and poorly developed.
I’m going to assume 343 doesn’t want to make ranks visible because it encourages boosting, quitting, competitive a**holes, selling accounts, etc. Isn’t there an easy way to avoid all of this? CSR should be displayed to the player only, IN-GAME. No other players would be able to see it. First, nobody will quit because of the other teams ranks being “too high”. Secondly, the selling of accounts will be very minimal, if at all. Nobody is going to buy an account without the proof of it being a 50. And even then, no one wants to brag about a 50 if it isn’t visible. Consider this “meeting in the middle” with your fans. Clearly, I am not the only one in discontent. Making CSR visible to the individual player will be a quintillion times easier (that much easier) than loading the obnoxiously slow “Halo Waypoint”.
The Waypoint “App” that you don’t even have on the Android marketplace, is frustratingly slow and unnecessary. I feel like I am running dial-up when I go to check my CSR. I don’t even know if you guys prepared for the amount of traffic online you generated with the release of CSR. I’m honestly surprised your servers haven’t crashed yet. No, instead, they’re barely clinging to life while I wait for my rank to display. And don’t even get me started about the system itself.
But guess what? I’ve started. I played a total of 10 Big Team games, and I was already a rank 39. But my friends and I play 10 games of CTF, and we struggle to get beyond the rank of 2. If that wasn’t bad enough, the credits aren’t even going to the correct game-type. My friend became a 2 in rumble pit, while ONLY PLAYING CTF. You waited a patient 6 MONTHS to roll out a disturbingly inadequate system.
If the only reason to keep the visibility of CSR online is to generate more “waypoint” traffic, then I pity your commitment to the loyal fan base Halo has come so far to achieve. I’ve been playing since 2005, and I’m finally considering putting my Halo days behind me. There is still hope. I understand you are marketing your game to a new crowd (and apparently are only seeing $$$), but you cannot ignore your foundation. Loyal fans are repeat purchasers. New, casual gamers, will not hesitate to walk away. The community is upset, and those who aren’t, have no idea how much better this game could be.
Thanks for your time. I pray for the day I can start enjoying Halo again.
