343, could you help the Halo 2 Superbouncers? Idea

343,

As you MUST know, Halo 2 has an ENORMOUS following of diehard fans that have spent HUUUUGE chunks of their lives doing nothing but bouncing around custom maps with their friends. Of all the games I’ve played, of all experiences I’ve had, from the Atari 2600 days up until now, nothing has been as entertaining for me as getting together with my bouncer buddies and bouncing around some custom maps.

Most people don’t understand. They can’t look past the fact that it doesn’t involve killing each other. Bouncing isn’t what Halo is about, we get that. But it has always been part of the game; it’s been one of the key elements for thousands of people that made the game what it was.

You advertised that all of the original “glitches” would still be intact and untouched from the original. We were led to believe that we would be able to get together again and relive old times and bounce around like the old days. We were misled.

Countless people went out and bought the game for the sole purpose of getting on some custom maps and bouncing with their friends for the first time in years… and not just custom maps, but CAMPAIGN MAPS for the first time EVER! The idea of bouncing around a campaign map online with a friend has been the dream of practically every superbouncer in existence. But it wasn’t to be.

I haven’t played any of the actual games since I bought the game. All I can think about is how horrendously nauseated I am with disappointment at not being able to do what we’ve all spent years dreaming about and months looking forward to.

There are bounces still in the game. I realize this. But it’s nothing like it was. It’s absolutely ruined. If you knew anything about superbouncing, you’d understand exactly what I’m talking about. I suggest Googling some old school bounce montages from Bounce FX and Air Biscuits. You’ll see what a true Halo 2 fan really is.

From what I gather, the new frame rate is what is killing the bouncing?

If that’s all it is, couldn’t there be an update that adds the OPTION to lower the frame rate? Something that would make the old bouncing method work like it used to?
Doesn’t have to be made part of matchmaking, just for custom and campaign maps. A little option in the game settings that lowers the frame rate to whatever it used to be?

Would that work? If so, what are the chances of you guys coming through for the thousands of us who have been chomping at the bit for months in anticipation, only to be left completely out in the cold… and UTTERLY DEVASTATED?

A quick fix for the bouncers. There’s GOTTA BE A WAY.

Bouncing is like meditation for me. It puts me at peace.
Please, you promised us an unchanged Halo 2.

There has to be something you can do to make it right.

Sincerely,

-Thousands of diehard Halo 2 fans around the globe

But what if bounces are kill?

I miss them too :frowning:

I’m glad that there gone

At least make an option for those who want to bounce to be able to do so on custom and campaign maps.

For the people who are glad that they’re gone, you don’t have to join the bouncing games.

For f*ck sake, it’s they’re, not there.

I don’t even play this game because of it. I bought it for one reason and one reason only, to bounce. My buddy was going to buy the whole -Yoink!- system just to bounce around some maps. Suffice it to say, he won’t be buying an Xbone anytime soon.

343, help us out.

I’ve super-bounced in campaign twice already, both by complete accident. Pretty cool that Xbox One lets you record all the crazy stuff that happens.

Why can’t we talk about videogames with out a grammar -Yoink!-

I’m sorry you and 5 other people only bought this game to play around with a silly glitch.

I think there are other things to worry about, like playing the actual game.

Don’t think you speak for the thousands of diehard halo 2 fans, only the 7 other bouncing nerds out there.

Good riddance

I miss then too but we have to accept the fact that, for the most part, they’re gone for good. They weren’t intentionally removed, it’s a side affect of the increased resolution and FPS. There’s nothing that can be done, even if there was 343i would never do anything about it.

how about you let fix their game first & then ask for additions of any kind ?

Yeah, although i wasn’t as big into it as Bounce FX was. I miss them too.

I hated super bounce so much it was the main reason, even above stand by glitchers, that caused me to stop playing Halo 2 online. Although i do think it would be cool for a side thing to happen for you guys, having it included in matchmaking is annoying as hell.

So many people in this comment section that never actually played Halo 2. It’s not even like they would let you get an unfair advantage in Matchmaking, every player worth their salt knew every bounce location.

That’s a poor way to approach the power of such places.

YES, it requires skill and teamwork to retrieve a powerweapon and then use a superbouce.
NO, it’s not cool that such places are allowed in matchmaking. Customs, sure. Tournaments, perhaps. It really is up to those that agree to play in Customs and by extension, Tournaments. In Matchmaking, such places are not always agreeable and so in that is why “cheap” positions are soft and hardzoned out of the combat regulation zone in Halo3 on.

H2’s superbounces do to map design intents such as movement and engagement zones the same as H2’s button combos (specifically the BR’s use of combos) do to sandbox intents with reload and damage over time over range potentials (yes, 2 overs). While the competitive scene CAN use such devices within their gameplay, as is the right for those that seek to win at all costs, actually having such “glitches” on purpose is not healthy for general gameplay.

All the talk about how to Forge intended choke points, killboxes and map flow become moot when the gameplay is to seek the position of least contest and hold it until one makes an error or runs out of ammo.
There becomes a 2 level metagame that while in itself holds a merit of skill, it holds little in the way of “fairness” for a sports competition.

Now while I do sympathise with those that once spent countless hours just having fun superbouncing around and out of maps in customs, I cannot sympathise for their expoits in matchmaking.

… Now… Could a 30fps setting for custom games allow them to be used again in Customs??? I am not the one to ask
