343 Could have Saved Face If...

They had just communicated that multiplayer was a work in progress. I have my belief that 343 knew the game was incomplete (too big of an issue to pass the testing faze) and Microsoft forced them to stick to their release date. I don’t think 343 had any desire to do the damage to the Halo brand that this fiasco has done. I think Microsoft wanted to sell consoles and feared that pushing back the release date would have people who were on the fence about next gen lean toward the PS4.

I can agree with those who say there is enough on the disc to enjoy while they sort out multiplayer. I can also agree that this was an incredibly ambitious project for 343. What I cannot get on board with is the concept that 343 was completely blindsided by this situation. A game that functions this improperly would never get past testing unless higher-ups chose to push it through. You can choose to believe that 343 had no idea this was coming if you’d want but that is incredibly naive.

There is a problem with your assessment. There was no testing phase. No Open Beta, anyway.

Blindsided? No, pushed too quickly? Absolutely.

Microsoft DEFINITELY wanted to find SOMETHING to push console sales. Hopefully, they will have this fixed by ‘Black Friday’ that way they get more sales. I love the Xbox myself, can’t get passed the decade old Playstation controllers. TIME TO UPGRADE, SONY!

eh. Some of it i can see being a surprise to them. There was no way for them to accurately stress test their servers. Their small group is no where near close to a full halo population.

But I don’t understand how they could have missed halo 3 lacking forge options for and objective based game types.

This is exactly my theory. I think its been said in the past MS pushes to meet extreme hard deadlines. Which works in some cases. This should not have been one of them. The MM part should have been delayed and the single player luanch should have gone forward.

If it was delayed by 2 weeks ahead of time the community would understand this a lot more than expecting the game to work on day one and after days of trying get in learning you have to use workarounds and sit in uneven matches for 2 weeks.

I would have been happy with a month long beta that started on the 11th instead of getting a barely playable multiplayer. Don’t get me wrong; the campaign is fun and nostalgic, but I play halo for matchmaking. I’ll still play after/if they fix the problems, but I’m pretty unhappy with their handling of the release. BF4 had plenty of issues on release, but at least I could get a game. It would be nice to hear more from them than a daily “we’re working on it and will patch it later” post. If I botched something this badly at my job, I’d be at the very least demoted, if not fired.

I can still get into games in MCC. Just not optimally. And searching for an hour straight is the wrong way to do it. I think it was 4 minutes, if not, retry?

I just don’t want the population to suffer because of this once it is fixed.

I agree with your premise. My only issue with it is that an open Beta doesn’t have to occur for a successful launch. Would an open Beat have solved or at leas brought the matchmaking issues to light? Absolutely. But we can only say that in hindsight. You wouldn’t have any reason to complain about the lack of an open beta if the game functioned properly.

So in other words…

It’s just a beta?

I don’t think anyone paid 60 bucks for a beta.

This is just pathetic 343 being pathetic.

Or it’s Microsoft pushing unreasonable deadlines like they did with Halo 2.

I think they could have saved face by testing the game before launch, I’m not sure how smart the people who run these games company’s are but if I was the CEO I’d spend that bit of extra money to test the game rather than pay all the employees overtime and avoid ruining the reputation of the company by shipping a broken game.
