343 continue to let themselves down here...

it’s continues to amaze me how 343 can undo so much great work with complete shoddy presentation.

As an OG fan, for the first time in over 10 years I love the general direction the game is being taken in. The art design is great, the core mechanics are absolutely faithful to the series’ principles. So where is it all going wrong from there?

For one thing 343 seem obsessed with over complicating the way they present the game, which has historically been an issue with them (overdesigned SFX come to mind…)

Case in point: The kill ‘confirmed’, headshot pop, assist/medal sounds are so ridiculously obnoxious and unnecessary, it’s absolutely mindblowing. You can hardly hear the sounds of guns and explosions half the time because they get drowned out by the aforementioned, incessant audial nonsense. Seriously 343, what is the thinking behind doing this?? Not once in past titles did anyone pine for this feature. We already knew perfectly well when we got a kill, assist, or headshot without having to be spoonfed that information. Please, for the love of god, if you have to keep it in the game at least give us an option to turn it off.

Also, the warthog engine and turret both sound so weak and underwhelming. How are 343 still getting this so wrong on their thired game in the series? seriously, you don’t have to reinvent the wheel all the time. Go and listen to the classic audio if that’s what it takes to replicate the magic of the classic warthog.

Likewise, the outline system (which has been widely criticized) is an outstandingly ugly and ungraceful means of communicating who enemy players are. You could have easily just marked teammates and left enemies unhighlighted, but no, literally every player in the game has to be obscured by a horrific neon mush. Nice.

Thankfully stuff like the horrendous battle chatter and cringeworthy AI can be turned off, otherwise I’m sure the game would have tested a lot of players’ sanity.

You listed maybe one actual issue with the game here (outline system). The rest is all a matter of opinion and preference as far as I’m concerned, so honestly having trouble getting behind the whole doom and gloom nature of this post.

And your assertion that i listed one true issue isn’t a matter of opinion and preference? How ironic…
How is it all doom and gloom? I literally said there’s a lot I like about the direction they’re taking the game in. It’s just infuritating to me the way they get so close to perfection only to sabotage themselves with bad decisions.

The only problem I have is the outline system.

I didn’t even have a “problem” with the outline system, an option to tweak it would be nice.

IMO the issues the OP brings up aren’t actually issues. I would have dropped Halo long ago if they kept recreating Halo 3 over and over again as many (not necessarily the OP) people have complained about.

Honestly, I’m with him on the sound effects. I prefer the atmosphere of Halo games that dont try to be too “video-gamey”. Stuff like glowing outlines, hit and kill sounds, and the like remove that sense of immersion.

Outside of the announcer, and music in Campaign all the sounds you would hear in a Halo game used to be the sounds you would actually hear if you were the one in the helmet.

Who said anything about recreating Halo 3? No one

hey if you dont like it that much then just dont play it. The amount of things the op seems not to like just seems like there looking for something 343i are not offering i guess.

Personally i think it looks great, i like the outline system as well, it helps being able to see people ur shooting with all the bloom, dark shadows ext. There should however be an option to turn if off for those who just want the classic style and i seem to remember 343i saying they will look into that later. The a.i chatter is fun and will add alot of fun to having lots of different a.i. Are they really any different from choosing voices for ur odsts in firefight?

Yes i feel simular to this statement. Luckily the spartan chatter can be turned off, and for the AI i hope for real Halo Characters like Sgt. Johnson or Arbiter, and the option that the AI says only “useful” stuff like when the next powerweapons spawns instead of “Kebap them” (it can be funny^^ but i think if you play often, it gets annoying)

For “details” like the Warthog sound and its turret i have to mind it when i play it, especially since 343i has done a good job of weapon sounds (besides needler): Making Halo Infinite | Audio Field Recordings – Small Arms - YouTube

It’s a pretty common remark within the typically older Halo community. I’m sorry if you felt attacked by my remark, that was not my intention. We are all entitled to our opinions.

the sounds effects seems GREAT to me, and i play halo since the first one, and to be honest i like this refresh of sounds, they seem more mature and realistic, only needler needs old style a bit, with our new sound system is amazing to listen this new sounds and soudndrack is perfect, i left menu of tech preview open just to listen the music. The outline system i liked, it was strange in the begining but then your eyes adapt, i dont mind at all.

everyone is so negative about halo right now can we just enjoy it some?

This 100%. It’s a new Halo game that seems like it’s on the right track. Feedback doesn’t always have to be negative.

Have you played Battlefront 2? Multiplayer on that game was pretty bad for reasons you described. It’s a trend in many modern games, over the top visual effects and all sort of sounds and on-screen clutter that just get in the way and make playing X game un-fun.

why you talking general? Read some of the comments here, some people have a little critic wich is not everytime a bad thing (if everybody says: “you are the best, you don’t have to get any better”, you will stuck on the same page forever) but praises also the game/ devs.

No offense but i think your statement is “so negative”

Honestly the only real thing I can agree with is the outline system, everything else seems a bit too nitpicking. Like the headshot pop and the sound of the warthog, sound of the guns were fine to me, I didn’t think the other sounds are hard to hear at all. Just seems like something that shouldn’t be that big of a problem for a post called “343 continue to let themselves down”. The sound of the guns were fine to me.

If we are talking about negatives about Halo Infinite is that we haven’t seen much of the story for a while, we haven’t really seen if the brutes have been improve in game. Plus the fact there will be no forge or co op for the story in launch. Which makes me think, where is Firefight? If we are even getting it.

However, I do like what I am mostly seeing of Halo Infinite the medals look great, we finally have bots in Halo. AI to me are funny and actually pretty cool, but like you said they can be turned off if you dislike them. Anyway I ain’t trying to attack you or anything, I just feel like this is a bit of a overreaction is all.

i think 343 here has done amazing job, i played the first tech preview and to be honest it feels fresh , feels new with old mechanics, the base of HALO is there, i was suprise how the game feel like old halos but at the same time something new and SUPER FUN. The graphics are on the point, no more and less, they feel HALO, and they feel NEW generation( nothing mind blowing, is true but they are really beautifull, this slipspace engine is superb). I played in Xbox series x ( the game shines and play amazing 60 fps perfection) and xbox one X, and to be honest xbox one x suprise me a lot( okey is 30fps true but the graphics seem next gen and playing there was niceee too). 343 deserves all the credit here, i give my HUGE aplause and i am really exicted for december =). keep that good job 343

Such small things to be bothered by. Warthog audio…really? Kind of reminds me of the people who complained about CoD not having a weapon inspect option.

I literally complimented them at the very beginning of my post, don’t be obtuse.

The highlight system is good because it shows you people in areas of shadow? Do you understand how stupid that sounds? That’s exactly why it’s a poor excuse of a system. Enemies should not be highlighted to the player, especially when they’re in darker areas of the map. Ridiculous.

AI voices in firefight didn’t announce every weapon you picked up…nor did they have the cringeworthy dialogue of the Infinite AI. It’s clearly a feature designed to appeal to young children, the execution is so juvenile.
