343 Chief vs Bungie Chief

Who’s version of Chief is better ? I’m guessing 343’s version is more like his novel counterpart. I prefer the Bungie version because I liked how the MasterChief just spit out one-liners every once in a while and it was unique to his character.

Bungie’s version. I prefer the look of his armor before it was arbitrarily changed without explanation. Also, Bungie’s Master Chief behaved in a more professional manner.

343i’s all facets, bungies chief was a generic “silent protagonist” who communicated almost exclusively with oneliners.

343’s has more emotion. He is better

Bungie Chief isn’t even a character. He’s just a suit of armor with almost no thoughts or feelings. 343 Chief is a human inside the armor.

Bungie’s chief

Actually, 343i’s version is as different from Eric Nylund’s take on the Chief as it is from Bungie’s version. With that said, the only version of the Chief that I found myself really caring about (as in what happens to him) would be Eric Nylund’s. There isn’t really any need to worry about the Chief in any of the games, at least until Halo 6, as it would be kind of absurd to kill him off. Or maybe I only care about Chief in the books because I read the books before playing any of the games.

And then there’s the version we don’t talk about. Bill Dietz’s version…

As a lore fan, I’d say 343i, especially with 4. I just wish we’ll get more time with him and blue team in the future, you know

more than 3 missions (^:

343 it shows emotions even fear which is something exciting to see from him and his love for Cortana and blue team.

I prefer Eric Nylund’s version from The Fall of Reach.

But if it’s just between Bungie’s and 343’s I’d say Bungie’s simply because I didn’t like any of the emotion they tried to put onto Chief in H4…or anything in H4 for that matter.

I prefer 343’s too but that simply isn’t true.

I also liked Chief’s armor better in the Bungie games.

I’m a nostalgic fella, so I gotta say Bungie’s. Either one’s fine. It does bug me a smidge that his armor changed drastically and they described it with a mere line from Cortana, something along the lines of “I re-wrote your suits firmware while you were asleep.” (While he was in it???) and that’s it. Ah, well, who care’s in the end I guess, I just appreciate continuity.

343’s version. Chief acted like a cardboard cutout in the first three games, which was one of the most frequent criticisms I heard… his evolution in Halo 4 into a human character was spectacular. He literally speaks more in that game than the entirety of Halo 1-3 combined.

343i’s Chief has personality and character.

Bungie’s Chief had better looking armor.

Wish they would just combine the two.

How so? When has Chief said more than ten words at once in a Bungie game?

Everything about bungie’s Chief was better. The armour, the personality, the way he carried himself. In halos 1-3 he was fleshed out to be a soldier. He didn’t exactly “get” being humane (don’t try and tell me I spelled that wrong because it’s pronounced humain) he just took orders, completed them, and took more orders. Anti-social. The Arbiter showed more emotion than Chief when Johnson died. But Chief didn’t react because Cortana told him to get to the Dawn. 343 didn’t “add personality”, they changed the fundamentals of the character. Now he’s cocky, and a leader? No. Fred should lead Blue team.

Yes. In Halo CE he had full conversations with guilty spark and Cortana. On missions “Assault on the Control room”, “343 guilty spark” and "The Maw

I don’t get the cocky part either. Chief was always stated as the defacto leader of Blue Team.

Strange concept of unique.
