Seriously, whoever makes the maps that have gone into 343 made Halos seriously needs to be fired, they play absolutely terrible. Overgrowth being a prime example. I know they love making games play like Call of Duty but surely they’re not making maps to encourage campers? right? surely?
Out of about the 30 (ish?) maps they’ve made, I’d say only about 3 of them are even worthy of being classed as a Halo map.
But hey, they look pretty so who cares…
I couldnt disagree more. Id say most maps are great with only a handful of duds. Ive played maps way worse then overgrowth

Compare them to classics from Halo 2 and 3 and then try say they’re good. I’d be amazed if you think they’re anywhere near them. 343 never has, and never will be able to make anything close to the likes of The Pit. The Pit wasn’t my all time favourite (Construct is), but it’s such a perfect Halo map. Maybe they cant do good Halo maps anymore because sprint makes it too easy to get across the map.

Im not comparing or saying that they are the best but they are fun and have a decent flow to em. I wouldnt call any of them bad except orion. Maybe im forgetting a couple though.
Look, can we stop evoking Call of Duty? Halo 5 doesn’t play like a traditional Halo game, no, but it does not play like CoD. I know it’s just an opinion, but it’s kind of a ridiculous claim in comparison how the game is conducted with power weapon securing, vertical, vehicles game play, etc. It just serves to be meaningless hyperbole, at least give the game criticism in what it actually is, not what it’s not
OT: Overgrowth is very focused on visual quality than fidelity, I agree, but there are genuinely good maps in this game. Fathom, Empire, Truth, Eden, coliseum. Not bad, but they could very much improve in map making philosophy, take some inspiration from Halo 1.

In terms of Arena maps, I think Truth, Coliseum and Regret are alright. The Rig and Fathom are meh, maybe okay. Eden, Empire, Orion, Overgrowth and Plaza are just terrible.

you see, there’s your mistake.
you cant compare H5’s maps to H2 and H3.
the whole games works differently, back then there was no sprint, no dashes, no climbing.
because of this and other features, it should be pretty obvious that the play completeley differently.

Hitmarkers, sprint, slide and ADS (or smart scope both are the same for me)…
Wait, isn’t this something that BO3 has?

Every map in Halo 2 and 3 were unique. In Halo 5 the maps feel boring and the same.

The games ADS is a more intrusive zoom. You can get knocked out of it and everything. And small mechanics don’t rule over how the overall game is played, hitmarkers, slide, sprint don’t make it play like a call of duty game. Maybe they are elements that don’t work very well for Halo, but they take a back seat for sure. (except sprint, that’s something that affects a lot, should be removed for sure)
Overgrowth is a map geared towards CQC more than the other arena maps, what’s the problem with that? Campers are going to camp no matter what map they’re on.
Jesus half the people here whine about maps being too focused on BR and range play and the other half -Yoink- when a map makes you focus more CQC.
Personally I LIKE having different maps w/different strengths and weaknesses. This game would be so boring if it was all on one map the whole time.
The problem with people on this forum is that they’re too obsessed with comparing Halo 5 to Halo 2 and 3. Seriously, people like to look at Bungie with nostalgia goggles and completely ignore their flaws—because, you know, they ain’t perfect, and they never will be. Judge Halo 5 on its own right, not as a comparison.
