I understand that 343 recently gave us a lot of requested reqs and features and I’m very pleased with what we have received.
However, I’m disappointed that we are still unable to assassinate with bayonets.
I’m quite surprised by this, as the bayonet is nearly identical to the other melee weapons in the game, as you can see below.
Energy Sword: 1-hit kill? Yes. Lunge? Yes. Assassination? Yes.
Gravity Hammer: 1-hit kill? Yes. Lunge? Yes. Assassination? Yes.
Bayonet: 1-hit kill? Yes. Lunge? Yes. Assassination? No!
I know that people aren’t keen on bayonet assassinations for a variety of reasons, more on that in the spoiler.
I understand that some people consider having bayonet assassinations would be too much like GOW, but I imagine that a GOW bayonet execution and a Halo bayonet assassination would be quite different to each other.
Furthermore, several players are concerned that accidentally starting a bayonet assassination when they attack someone from behind with one would make them vulnerable, as the bayonet wouldn’t have the insta-kill effect. However, I believe that this can be remedied by having a “disable bayonet assassinations” option in the controller menu (like there is for normal assassinations).
I’m not asking for loads and loads of different bayonet assassinations, I would just like to have 2 or 3 awesome assassinations to add a little extra “coolness” to bayonets.
Assassination ideas:
Just a Slice:
Spartan A grabs Spartan B’s right shoulder, turns him round and slashes him horizontally across the abdomen.
Big Needle:
Imagine the Inevitability assassination, but with a bayonet.
Tip of the Spear (uses thrusters):
Bayonet version of Terminal Velocity.
Can Opener:
Spartan A kicks the back of Spartan B’s knee, forcing him down, then Spartan A swings his gun like a battle axe to slice B’s neck. (Idea by Eleventh Sniper)
Outta My Way: Spartan A shoves bayonet into Spartan B’s back, then kicks him off. (Original idea by CMShankz)
Neurosurgery: Spartan A stabs Spartan B in the back of the head, then knocks him to the floor with a rifle butt to the head.
Quite the Ride:
Spartan A sweeps the legs of Spartan B and, as he hits the floor, Spartan A bayonets him in the stomach.
Shoot 'em up: Spartan A grabs Spartan B’s right shoulder, turns him round, stabs him in the stomach then shoots him off.
