Please 343, on the 1/100,000,000 chance you see this, can we PLEASE return to Halo Reach’s unlock system?
I can can highlight a few pros/cons here-
Pros-
You know what you get
Faster unlocks
Better looking armor (ex. ODST variants having 3 added items instead of simple reconfigures of colors)
Not as spammy as Halo 5.
Simply better.
CUTS MICROTRANSACTIONS
Cons-
Not as good as Halo 3’s achievement unlocks, or even Halo 4’s commendation unlocks (arguable)
Luck crowd have the potential to be run off
I feel, and this is my opinion (obviously), that the Reach system was the best. It ensured you didn’t have to no life but you didn’t get the items you don’t want by mere coincidence.
no way. the reach system was a broken grindfest. and the restriction on when you could unlock certain amounts just meant that everyone was wearing a combination of the same 3 sets.
I almost think armor should just be given out instantly upon installation of the game. No one is really going to look at my Ascetic head gear and say “wow that guy got a quad kill, what a badass”, and I don’t find any joy in grinding for armor. I guess Halo 3 is the closest alternative to that, since the requirements are generally pretty easy and straightforward.
Reach and Halo 4 are tolerable because even though it’s still a grind, it’s not a particularly lengthy or RNG-based grind.
Really I guess I’d take anything over the current REQ system.
One benefit of the Reach system is -Yoink- like Armor Reskins would likely just be cheap sub-categories of Armor in the same way that Armor Attachments were, instead of counting as full pieces of armor that just artificially inflate the amount of stuff system.

Halo 5 is the broken grindfest, not Reach. You get all armor by the time you are a Colonel, relatively easy to get there.
Same story with Halo 5, because you only get the choice between armor, helmet, and visor.

You must not have played Halo 3. Recon players were typically people you would want to be careful of, because the armor took such skill to obtain. There was a sort of respect for the wearer.
Halo Reach is the next best thing because Halo will never go back to having only 20-30ish armor sets.
the reach ranks and unlocks where the best in the series. The ranks gave players things to strive for, people worked hard and tried to get better so they could earn those cool pieces of gear. It added a lot of replayability to reach, something more recent and past halo’s lack. Also the ranks were an acheivement in and of themselves, it also helped distinguish the veteran players from the new or bad players(bad players typically don’t have a high rank, since they will progress far slower than a average or above player).
Halo 4 was a real step back from reach’s armor and rank system(although some would argue reach was a step back from Halo 3’s, but that’s rather debatable), and Subsequently Halo 5 is even further devolved from reach than Halo 4. Now, instead of having to work hard and play better to earn that awesome helmet or chest peice, you can just drop 5 bucks and get lucky on a silly REQ pack(Although if your buying REQ packs with Real cash, your a complete idiot).
Its kinda pointless now though to be asking for things to return, Halo is pretty much done. Microsoft/343 industries have caused irreparable damage to Halo, largely due to their greed and lack of interest in the original player base/community,
