343 better fix cheatting

i paly halo alot but iam getting tired of all the modding 343 better start doing somting about it. it is taking the fun out of mp if u suck so bad u have to cheat then dont play

What halo game are you referring to and what modding? I have rarely seen any cheating if that is what it was.

What is your download and upload speed for the internet?

Also have you tried using a filter and playing people closer to you instead of far away?

I think you may just be having issues with latency or Lag, it may not be your fault it could be someone elses connection or it could be yours.

I wouldnt call it modding or cheating unless you have valid proof.

Dont expect very many changes to Reach before Halo 4 comes out that is their main focus right now.

Since you haven’t gone into detail on the cheats and mods you’ve supposedly seen, very few people here are going to believe that you’re telling the truth. There are tons of people that get beaten by more skilled players, but can’t handle the loss and start accusing the victors of modding. :\

In any case, the responsibility for handling modding falls on Microsoft, not 343i. It’s my understanding that when it comes to in-game offenses, Microsoft are the people who enforce Xbox LIVE policy, while 343i only enforces the Reach-specific stuff (such as bans on AFKing).

You make it sound as if this happens 24/7, i have over 10k games played and only 1 have been modded and that was more then a year ago. Just face it you got beaten by a better player.

As long as Halo continues to use insecure peer to peer hosting then CHEATING WILL NEVER STOP.

This has been very frustrating to me as well. It is pretty much constant and something does need to be done about it. When I go back and watch games in theater mode I notice that the supposed cheater’s reticle is nowhere near where it should be when making their shots. Also look for evenly paced shots and or stafing these are signs of modded controllers. Also I notice that some players get twitchy when you shoot at them this could just be the connection but it seems to convenient and too often for that to be completely true. I have the best internet I can get for my area and I have done everything possible to ensure a good connection, and I had no problems pre-343i. I’m sure nothing will be done about it but always report suspicious activity to hopefully one day do away with these cheating Aholes.

LOL!

Theater ONLY shows 3rd person view which is offset compared to 1st person view. And really? Modded controllers apparently strafe now? Bein able to hit the extremely low fire rate cap means modded controllers as well?

The cheating Halofornicator is talking about is real cheating that happens everyday. Not imagined cheating that is actually just confusing skill with “OMG CHEETZ”.

I love it how players call the good players cheaters. When you get out DMR’d thats not cheating that just you … being bad at this game.

Theater only shows third person but there is still a reticle and any fool can tell the difference between real skill and some -Yoink!- spraying their dmr all over and somehow their shots still connect. Anything is possible and yeah that includes a strafe mod. When you see a player make the same exact strafe move over and over it doesn’t take much of an “imagination” to figure hey somethings not right here. So don’t sit there and try to make me out to be some delusional freak, O.K. D.B.

Anyway, you sound awfully defensive about this topic, and you seem to know a lot about cheating too. Hmm. It reminds me of when I used to hear “it’s impossible to cheat or use modded controllers on Halo Reach”, we all know deep down that this is not true. My point is that you should not believe something just because some hack/arrogant jerk says so and also report any suspicious activity.

Having a predictable strafe is modding? Wow, I must have been a modder when I started playing Halo.

The 3rd person view does not even remotely come close to showing what the player actually did. It doesn’t even show scope use.

And I know a lot about cheating because it happens to me quite often(one of the drawbacks of being incredibly good). The only cheating method that happens enough to actually be a problem is DDoS attacks. Modded controllers do NOTHING in Reach thanks to magical caps on firing rates.

sorry

Cheating in reach is practically nonexistent outside of arena. If you think you got cheated one or two games out of a few thousand then you might be right. If you claim to see it all the time Its because either your connection in terrible, or you need to make excuses for why you constantly get outplayed.

This pretty much sums it up…

OT: Op, are you laggy at all? Because that would explain everything in itself. Coming from someone who has a terrible moniter and terrible internet (the very source of my inner frustration) it can appear like people are modding. My brother constantly accuses people for modding, hacking, or lag switching when in all thruth its just our terrible internet.

What quality is your internet? The DMR in halo reach is hitscan, so while on your screen you walked behind a wall, due to lag in the internet connections on his screen you are still in the open. From there, if he shoots and kills you, it will appear that you have been shot through the wall.

Unless the people are jumping 10 miles in the air three sixty no scoping everyone with a fully automatic sniper rifle, there is a high chance they aren’t modding.

HCTF, the 3rd person reticule in theater is inaccurate, there is a simple test you can do to prove this is the case, go into theater, watch yourself play then what yourself in 3rd person and you’ll notice that 3rd person always shows the reticule off to the right of where it actually is.

the strafing, strafing in reach is impossible under a good connection because of the crappy movement mechanics, under laggy matchmaking though, that is a completely different story, people will start flying side to faster because of lagg, on you’re screen he’s going side to side really fast but on his screen he’s barely moving, its to do with the player prediction in the netcode and i think packet correction(?).

Now now, calm down reaper. Remember, on your screen it will look like they arent shooting at you but are still hitting you, but remember on their screen they see sometjing completely different. There is lag, so you may be just .1 second behind someone, and that will screw you up bad.

I don’t always agree with Satanasreverance (mostly because he’s one of those “if you are any worse than me then you can’t play video games” kinda guy), but he does know what he’s talking about.

And just because someone does the same strafe over again doesn’t mean their modding.

Modding would be hitting every shot, every time, everywhere, through walls, with a sniper, while they aren’t facing you.

SO unless that happens, they probably aren’t modding… I think you should play someone like Kampy or Dutchy. These to people would destroy you off spawn before you could even see the screen (literally, they’re that good). Then you will have a better perspective of modding vs good damn player.

Even then, people will still find a way to cheat. It’s part of human nature to find ways to manipulate and cheat the system.

I was not aware that out DMRing people now counts as “cheating.”

Thanks, that’s helpful and really clears some things up for me. It is just that it happens too oftese time. Also when I play I am the only one using the internet.I realize 2Mbps is not that great bun. The best internet in my area is 2Mbps an 25 Mbps down plus I have a full def. monitor with a 5ms respont even when I was only getting 1Mbps for the first year+ of the game I didn’t have this much trouble. I guess I’ll just have to wait for fiber optics = /.
The hole theater thing is a lot more significant than what you guys are talking about and it doesn’t happen that often, it was just something I noticed. I guess it could just be fudged up lag.
P.S. I will be the first to say good game in the event of a good connection. The frequent lag is what grinds me gears and maybe then will i accuse someone that doesn’t deserve it. if sorry.

Most of the problems in MP that I have experienced that cannot be directly attributed to other players bad connections have to do with exploiting glitches (usually related to individuals or parties that are stat padding). One example is the use of AAs such as jetpack to get into areas of a map that should be soft kills zones and players who have been playing Reach long enough just camp in these spots with power weapons in order to get kills (slayer or objective games–it does not matter). Anyone who has played BTB on Hemorrhage can attest to this problem. Another example is the auto aim glitch for the passenger seat on a Revenant, in which even a player that is not very skilled with a sniper rifle can get a one or two shot kill. A glitch that I have seen occur more often in recent months are weapon and vehicle respawns after getting a server lag screen, either from changing hosts or another player quitting.

I am not sure if other posters in this thread would classify exploiting glitches in the game as cheating, but I do and I make it a point to go after any opposing player that engages in this behavior as well as try to discourage my teammates from doing the same. I play Halo to have fun (i.e. I do not take the game that seriously), and when players engage in this sort of behavior it ruins the game for everyone involved.

> OK MR hot shot Im not going to sit here and argue with this arrogant forum queen I know BS when I see it. I don’t see why your being such a -Yoink!- bag if you agree with me that cheating is a problem. And like I said you can tell the diff. in theater. Incredibly good? LOL You can ignore the fact but something is wrong with matchmaking that is the -Yoinking!- bottom line.

What he means is that you can’t go into anyone’s 1st person in theater besides yourself. The third person reticule is actually a bit to the right of where the person was aiming in first person. With no scope visible, long distance hits can look like clear misses in third person.

The strafe is a physical action players do to throw off the opponents aim. Common background MM lag can make them extremely hard to hit like this.

Reach and MS have a VERY strong Ban-hammers in place to prevent cheaters.
