The Sniper is grossly overpowered and ridiculous. You can shoot someone in the back, the shoulder, the stomach and I’ve even had the leg once, and get a head shot. It’s a joke.
The Halo 3 sniper was good and the H2 sniper was even better. Why does Reach’s Sniper fail so hard?
I’ll tell you why. Because Bungie made it painfully obvous that they catered the game to lesser skilled players. The sniper needs to be fixed, because honestly, the current version is just stupid. There’s a montage that was on the Bungie news feed, that showcased someone shooting across Blood Gulch (side to side) and missing the enemy by about 20 meters, and still getting a headshot.

It has happened to me once… I can’t prove it, though.
However, regardless of that, the sniper is still overpowered, and the hitbox for it is broken.
That would be a problem with hitboxes in Reach being too large much like they were in Halo 2. The sniper is too EZ to use, but I think a bloomless DMR will fix that problem. As of right now the DMR is not an effective counter to the sniper due to reticle bloom and once it is gone only truly skillful snipers will be able to dominate once again.
Wow I’ve never heard or seen that happen, but if it was only once than I would say it’s not the weapon itself but some kind of glitch at that particular time.
I’m pretty sure I heard one of the MLG announcers state the the sniper in Reach was a lot more difficult to use than the one in H3. I can’t remember which video it was, but it was from the ones posted on Waypoint.
its not that the sniper got overpowered, Spartans are slower and Bungie did that for the use of sprint, but the thing about the sniper that I don’t like is that it rapes vehicles (but thats a different story)

I’ve seen that video, too. Don’t know if he’s right, though.
And as for that glitch, stuff like that happens every now and then. A short network hiccup or some form of lag spike can do that to you.

That announcer is dumb then. The only reason they may believe that is because in Reach you can’t lead your targets, you will just miss.

That or because of sprint. I think its alot easier to use than the H3 and HCE sniper were it has:
Better hit detection
Bigger hitboxes
Hitscan
Stronger reticle magnetism
Slower movement speed
Less head bobbing
Aim smoothing
DMR paced 5 shots gives the sniper 3 chances to hit if not more if they miss.

Stopped reading here.
Halo 2’s sniper was the only sniper in the series that took LESS skill to use than Halo Reach’s. Halo 2 had larger hitboxes, higher bullet magnetism AND a stickier reticle than Reach does. And the Sniper was free headshots for everyone.
If you’re going to make a mockery of the Reach Sniper (Which IS terrible) at least use true/valid information. Halo 3’s sniper was the most optimal skill based one based solely on the stats of the weapon/hitboxes. But Halo CE’s gameplay mechanics caused the Sniper to be the most difficult to use in CE, as Halo CE had the most rapid movement speed for players.
BTW as per earlier comments about MLG announcers: They know little to nothing about the game they just spew out whatever sounds good. Ask any pro player, or heck anyone who was actually good with the Halo 3 sniper. They will all tell you how using the Sniper in Reach was like transferring from University to grade 3.

This could be the affect of the Sniper’s bloom. Normally the bloom is purely aesthetic, but you will note that if you fire immediately after pressing Y and switching to the sniper, much like the DMR, NR, or Magnum, you can actually fire a single shot before the reticle refreshes. The bloom on the sniper purely exists so players don’t abuse rapid weapon switches.

It’s not the hit boxes it’s the aim assist. It’s high.

It has happened to me before, I have video proof but it isn’t on my fileshare.
I shot a guy in the torso and it counted as a shot to the head.
I saved that film because it was so ridiculous, lucky on my part but still…ridiculous

As you can see, virtually all headshots are scored by sweep sniping, i.e. quickly moving the reticle over or close to your opponent and letting the MASSIVE bullet magnetism turn what would otherwise have been a miss by several feet into a headshot.
I tested the Reach sniper in customs. There is literally no bullet magnetism, if you are a millimetre off you won’t get the hit, it’s got pinpoint accuracy. If you get a headshot, you were aiming at the head. Either there was lag, you’re confused or you’re lying.
If you wanna complain about snipers, complain about that atrocity in halo 2. There’s more magnetism in those bullets than there is in the Swan station in LOST.
The sniper is way to easy to use. There is a reason why in H3 and H2 it was harder to use…BECAUSE ITS A SNIPER RIFFLE!!! There is no reason at all why ANY sniper should be easy to use…ever. H3 got it right with the sniper, its arguable that in H3 its the perfect sniper riffle aside from hitboxes and registry.
