the game cost half a billion double dollars from what I’ve heard. So basically it needs to sell at least 10 million or so just to go even.
Stop defending monetization schemes. Armor can be earned through achievements and armor can be boughten.
That is all people really want.
But yes, this is a scheme and very similar to EA. Why? Because EA almost got away with it by doing it little by little. Look at the parallels. They don’t need to be 100% match but it’s the same thing. Lul
Half of Billion. For a multiplayer that the beta was the game and for a campaign that had to be fixed.
A game costing that much should have a solid mp (which it doesn’t) and/or a solid campaign. Which the campaign itself was alright, great even, yet the story was meh. It was flat.
Not to mention, if they needed to sell copies 1. Why make the mp free, 2. Why put the campaign on game pass.
I honestly question 343’s talent.
The artist did great. Probably the one big plus about the game. I will give animation and art teams a big standing ovation
Gamepass means I paid $10 for campaign.
This is the issue with game pass. Older games on it great! Putting new games on it, well as a consumer NOICE, but being smart about it, not nice.
Yeah it it not a good financial decision to put new games on gamepass, unless they want gaming to be a subscription service.
Because they probably make far far more money from it this way than they would just selling it for $60.

Sean W (good Halo Youtuber, I recommend them) speculates that Infinite probably already made about a billion dollars off of its microtransactions/store… and that the silence from 343i indicates that it will not change.
I watch him. Though just shutting up about it in the forums won’t help. Press that matter, until it floods the chat rooms. Then then they will have no choice. The community will have won then.
Cosmetics are part of the core Halo experience. Technically Multiplayer and Campaign are optional features of Halo as well, you don’t HAVE to play them, you choose to, should we roll over when the campaign or multiplayer are treated like cosmetics with this argument? The answer is: No, no we should not.
At least it’s not lootbox right? hahaha…
Seriously though, if 343 did the thing where Bundles are a pack of goodies for say, 10 dollars, but each item are sold seperately for 3 dollars each, I would consider giving them money.
The bundles are a great deal, but you have the option of spending a tad more for specific pieces you actually want.
They’ve always been tertiary.
If you took away every single one of the cosmetics in every single Halo title, it wouldn’t impact core gameplay one single iota. Your weapons will all function the same, you’ll still be able to jump/crouch/“celebratory crouch”, utilize the same vehicles, and “finish the fight” as you have always been able to when there are cosmetics to unlock.
No they’re not lol. Being a “game” the “gameplay” is the core function behind the reason to purchase the product. It’s how the game is advertised, how it’s promoted, how it’s ‘sold’.
Halo isn’t advertised as 26th century super soldier dress up sim with some optional features that let you take control of your sparkly player model, it’s promoted as a science fiction first person shooter that revolves around a sprawling single player story and arena style multiplayer gameplay.
Campaign and Multiplayer are not optional from a design standpoint. They’re the core experience.
If this were the purely hypothetical case and the campaign was sectioned off one base at a time for $5 a pop, and multiplayer was paywalled off one weapon, map and gamemode at various price increments then yes this would be a huge issue BECAUSE THEY’RE THE ENTIRE REASON PLAYERS ARE INTERESTED IN THE TITLE IN THE FIRST PLACE.
Fortunately we find ourselves in a position where entirely tertiary, avoidable and nonessential parts of the game cost a little money if you want to dress your Spartan up.
Then tell me how it’s the same, because I just dismantled the argument pretty cleanly for you and will do it again in the following passage.
No no no no no, the loot boxes were supplemental to the issue, not the issue itself.
It was the act of paying $60 for a title thinking you’d have an average gameplay experience, then having all the progression system, upgrades, weapons, characters, and other gameplay experiences locked behind a randomized system that would’ve either cost you $2100 or 188 days (4258 hours) of your life to unlock.

That was the issue, that’s the straw that broke the camel’s back.
No, you need to be more specific with it. Your generalizations are absolutely outrageous and short sighted. Full stop.
Oh buddy, if you were any further from that truth it would break reality, like that scene in Interstellar where they enter the black hole and the dude becomes a ghost.
We DO NOT mean the same thing here, it’s clear as day.
Preach it on the mountain top!
What can I say…People are sheep and that begets everybody who isn’t to behave like wolves at their expense, including the shepherds, who ever only appear to be virtuous, but will lead them to the same fate.
It’s a big part of why Western civilization is currently going to hell, but it’s going to end very poorly for the wolves when those sheep finally get a clue.
Yeah none of your points are really valid in this case though:
-
Yes it would. Almost every single person who plays Halo likes to customize their spartan at least a LITTLE bit, if you don’t, you’re one of the minority.
-
Halo is advertised as 26th century super soldier dress up, that’s LITERALLY WHAT multiplayer IS! Name me one single multiplayer ad for Halo that has nothing but default spartans running around. Cosmetics ARE a BIG part of the multiplayer experience, we shouldn’t have to pay for them at all.
-
We’re only in this situation because 343 and Microsoft know how important cosmetics are TO HALO PLAYERS! They literally paywalled this stuff KNOWING people will be upset by it. Cosmetics should NEVER be paywalled. Honestly the entire idea of anything other than a battlepass being monetized in game in honestly the worst idea in gaming history.
End of counter point.
You honestly think 343 is gonna get this game to last 10 years? It won’t. The store will only get worse, and the majority of players looking to customize their spartans will go back to MCC, the majority of players who want to Forge will go back to MCC, the majority of players who want to have a nice custom game night with friends will go back to MCC.
The reason for all of this is that 343 spent more time working on a predatory microtransaction store front than actually designing the game hence why Infinite launched with less maps and modes than Halo 5, and to nobodies surprise all of Infinites microtransactions are cosmetic which also resulted in the game being absolutely bastardized at launch.
Oh my god. I have literally said. It’s the same freaking story.
We let these things go by, not stopping them. Why did we stop the Halo 5 loot boxes? It wasn’t stopping game play, you could have grind and gotten points easily to get req packs.
They literally took a staple of Halo, a freaking staple, that a lot, a whole lot of people love and put it in a store and battle pass… Ske7ch even admitted to this to a degree in his Reddit post. All because F2P. There was no balance with it. EA didn’t balance the loot boxes. It’s the same.
I get it, you don’t care about customization. You play pvp solely for pvp. While others play pvp just not for pvp, but to get those armor pieces, to show them off. It’s the same exact thing for people wanting more ranked game types. Is there a point of rank? No, yet people want it to have something to show. The other side of rank is it get harder, why care, just play the game, who cares who you go up against.
It’s the same story, Im not saying 343 are EA, have done the same very exact thing as EA. Im saying 343 is the new EA in 343 own way. Locking a staple of a game behind a paywall = EA: locking things like character behind a paywall.
LOCKING THINGS BEHIND A PAYWAY. It’s the same thing.
Stop defending monetization schemes because you love 343.
This type of stuff will continue to get worse and worse. Cosmetics use to be thing to earned now everyone can have the same thing with a little bit of money
My point been made. I’m standing my ground and you’re standing your ground. There is no point to this back and forth.
completely agree with everything you said
Some people can enjoy the game but like me, we need something more than a half -Yoink!- battlepass to work towards and this game so far has had nothing but pay walls for everything except to play the currently limited multiplayer… Even with the recent additions
I understand that 343 made a mistake and they should lower the prices at least for people who want some nice armor, but until they do something, voting with your wallet is the best you can do
Oh I am going to. My money isn’t going to anything as of now. If they released a coating that was my personal favorite colors for a core I liked and at a reasonable price, I might buy it. But that’s likely never going to happen. And why would I pay for something that’s less than what I used to have? I won’t. But that doesn’t mean 343 isn’t making a killing off whales, people with poor impulse control, and kids with their parents credit card. And unless they stop getting that money, I fear things will just get worse regardless of what I do or do not buy.
