@343 and general forum: Firefight!

I truly believe that Firefight needs to make a return in the form of DLC or a game patch.

First and fore most because it was all ready a game mode that just needed to be updated with the new game content.

Spartan Ops is an enjoyable game mode. But it is a rather poor replacement IMO for Firefight. The idea behind Firefight is that you fight till you die. (Options for infinite live aside) A mode where the inevitable was a victory for the enemy, not for the hero. Spartan Ops is almost like an opposite day Firefight.

-Where the was no story, now there is
-Where you had finite live, now you have infinite
-Where the waves were endless and progressed in difficulty, now there are a set number of enemy with a negligible increase in difficulty
-Where you were able to play both on and offline, now you can only play online

Sops is a great mode to have. It is a small distraction from the competitive online scene. The story (what there is of it so far) is nice. The weekly update to it is a very strong commitment from 343 to its fans.

Its just not the same. Had Sops been toted as a new game mode with no comparison to Firefight i really think that people would have loved it all the more. But one you say that it is a replacement for Firefight, you start to draw parallels (or lack there of) and it comes up short.

I would really love to have Firefight back. I really, really, REALLY would. It would extend the life of this game for me at least 10 fold.

But if that cannot be I would settle for something like in this post:
Firefight in Spartan Ops

At the very least tell me that it will return in H5.

Firefight was Halo gold for me. I have long since returned H 1-3 because I have played them to death (literally in the case of H1) but ODST and Reach still come out of their cases at least 1 a month to bring a smile to my face as i climb the wave ladder in futile attempts at Covenant genocide. Please give me the same option to kill Prometheans.

I would like 343 to see this post and take the time to talk to the community about Firefight and its future.

As long as it’s more ODST firefight than Reach firefight i’m all for it.

If it’s ever back in, Arcadefight needs to be a separate playlist than real Firefight. Sometimes I actually wanted a good, strategic firefight, but nope, just jet-packs and boom-booms.

After playing Spartan Ops I’ve come to the conclusion that it should be it’s own game rather than attached to Halo 4 and the subsequent follow ups using recycled maps so cheaply. 343 should look at Skyrim, Red Dead Redemption, and the GTA series and branch into a Halo game based in a Massive Map Environment. Throw in all the vehicles and let players create their own story. Bring back Firefight for Halo 5 and expand Spartan Ops into something larger than a glorified co-op campaign kill-race.

Without derailing too much…

i agree with this, but would that make Sops harder to produce?

I’d love the Firefight in ODST and Reach, I don’t see why it can’t exist side by side with Spartan Ops. More gameplay options would only make Halo 4 better. I can see 343 doing it if there is enough support from fans. I’m enjoy 4, but miss the relaxation and quick fun to be had in Firefight.

I prefer Spartan ops… and yeah I’d like an option to play it like firefight for a long time with limited lives but I don’t think it’ll happen and to me it’s not a to important issue.

I’m also very interested to see where the Spartan ops story is going

Firefight was FAR superior to Spartan Ops.

At first I didn’t mind the replacement, that is until I realized that Spartan Ops was just recycled campaign sections that you have to play backwards over and over with corny dialogue.

At least Firefight was fun to play with friends repeatedly. Each match was a little different, yet Spartan Ops is just the same missions over and over and over.

Firefight was so much better than Ops. Once you’re done with a mission there’s no desire to do it again whereas in Firefight I could sit there with friends and play a dozen matches in a row.

If they can’t bring it back in Halo 4, I hope they learn their lesson and give it back in the next game because Spartan Ops is a big over-hyped failure.

@Beak: Yes it would but that would be a game I would buy. A lot people loved Skyrim even with being as buggy as heck, and after seeing what 343’s art dept can muster it wouldn’t be such a stretch of the imagination of getting dropped on a chunk of Requiem the size of Skyrim and slogging over it like some of us do only instead of the DragonBorn your a ONI Spartan agent delving into Forerunner structures and taking on Covenant patrols or just shooting flying stingrays.

Oh well, never going to happen.
