343, a compromise with playable elites

To 343 and the Halo Community,

Im going to just shoot a bunch of ideas out here and obviously you all will give feedback and say which ones you like.

We all heard the news about playable elites. Lots of people don’t like this. I’m neutral on this matter, but here are some ideas that I think could eventually be added. I’m assuming playable elites aren’t a thing right now due to Dev time since the criticism last year, but if there ever is an update that includes playable elites here’s how I think it can go:

  • Playable Elites could be your Splitscreen or Co-Op choiceOkay think of this with me. Imagine you are playing splitscreen with your family or with a friend on campaign. That friend could have the option to play as a spartan or an elite. The same with co-op. If you have 3 people on a campaign, they would all have the option to be an elite or a Spartan.
Only problem - who would be master chief? Would one person have to be chief? Would playable elites in campaign get confusing with who’s the real elite and who’s just your co-op/splitscreen partner? Give some ideas these are all work in progress

  • Playable Elites could just be in casual game modesYou know what I mean here. Halo does need just a place to chill and enjoy yourself, so bring elites into casual, non-ranked modes could be a possibility? Thoughts?

  • A playable Elite could be achieved by reaching a certain levelI’m not sure how I feel on this one but it’s up to you guys. However Infinites ranking system works, let’s say max rank is 117. If you reach 117 you get to play as a playable elite. Or level 100 you get to play as a playable elite.
Other considerations - Once you unlock the elite through whatever level, would it only be unlocked for casual or both casual and competitive modes? I think it should just be for casual modes but all ideas are welcome.

Let’s all chime in with your ideas on what they should do if they bring back playable elites. (Do not make this a thread critiquing how messed up it is that there’s no playable elites, instead provide feedback with your ideas)

There could be an option where playable elites are achieved as an Easter egg in the campaign? Like, if you find a skull on top of a mountain, that could unlock playable elites? Idk might be bad since if one person finds it everyone will. But maybe 343 could make it so it’s different for everyone, I’m not sure how they would do it but I’m just putting ideas out like u said.

I don’t think it’s a time development issue, I just think they don’t want to put them in or they have data showing not enough people use them so they’re not going to dedicate the extra resources to it. They’ve had 6 years for crying out loud they can put Elites in.

Personally, I always love playing as elites and so seeing them not playable once again especially in a game that has their old models back is very disappointing.

I love the idea of playable elites being unlocked at a certain level. It would make them way cooler to see on the battlefield as you know that guy had to be pretty good to get that armor. It’s also something they could patch in later!
They still should have been there at launch and I see no excuse why they’re not there beyond “we didn’t want to”

343 wanted to focus on the Spartan Super Soldiers in multiplayer. Plus the statistics of previous titles showed how small the amount of players who used Sangheilis (elites) were back in the Bungie era and in Halo 2 Anniversary’s multiplayer. I’m sorry but it’s likely not happening. I’ll admit, years ago when I first heard they were taking them out in Halo 4, I was initally shocked but then I understood their reasoning behind it and moved on before launch.

I think they were a neat idea, but they need to focus on making a great spartan game first before adding things that add little to the actual experience.
