32 Player Multi-Team Big Team Battle

Just thought of an interesting possibility-- an 8 v 8 v 8 v 8 Big Team Battle game mode. Different factions could represent Brutes, Human, Elites, Flood, Prometheans. You could even further break some of the factions down to their respective clans/political affiliations (brutes vs brutes, Thel’s vs Jul’s Elites, ONI loyal spartans vs “rogue” spartans, etc.) Obviously this poses a lot of balance challenges,

I know the possibility of this happening is very slim, but I would love to see 343 push Halo in new creative directions with the new trilogy and the new hardware rather than just giving us rehashes of decade old game modes only.

What do you guys think? Do you think 343 can accomplish this or is doing something similar? Or do you think that we are doomed to play 8 v 8 forever?

It really all depends on the map size, We only got a glimpse of a few of the maps from both TDM and Breakout during the beta.

I would like to see this but it probably won’t happen, or at least not at launch. If it is, well done 343i.

I think the maximum possible players would be 12v12, unless 343i blows our minds at E3.

Which I sincerely hope they do. My mind needs a good blowing.

Without even coming up with new maps, Spire, Headlong, Waterworks, etc… Heck, even a modest remake of Sandtrap could make relatively good use of 32 players, I believe…

EDIT: But that’s without Sprint… Not counting Spire…

I think we’ll see a bump to probably 12 players per team.

Josh Holmes hinted at new game modes, so we’ll see. I think the 8v8v8v8 is an awesome idea though, never heard of that one before.

Sounds silly but I’d like 24 player instead. 8 on 8 is already fantastic but is able to remain focused. While I’d love to see the size increase in scope, moving to 12 on 12 would be better IMO. Once you get beyond that to 32 or like BF with 64, it’s essentially a bunch of minigames happening on one large map. The focus changes too much.

I think 343i can do it, it’s just they’ll wait to do it at a later time. Maybe in a update for Halo 5, or maybe in Halo 6, but I don’t think it will happen when the game comes out.

It may be 12 v 12 for Halo 5. Who knows? Hopefully they’ll give us details at E3.

How about 24-32 player FFA, maybe on a smaller map. Unranked of course, but the sheer chaos would be fun. Even small teams large player count sounds interesting.

I’d be down for 12 on 12, but anything larger may be too large for a game like halo.

I think it’s possible, but I don’t think they would just because most people would probably be against it. It would be a big change to multiplayer and they were heavily criticized for multiplayer changes in Halo 4. I personally think it’s a great idea, but it is highly unlikely they will go with it.

Not going to happen. Period. Not on Halo 5. IF it did, it would be it’s own standalone MP game, because how in the hell are they going to make that into a campaign? They won’t.

Not saying that Big Team Battle would be entirely replaced, just a NEW game mode in addition to the already favorite classic modes.

While I don’t think that specific suggestion is likely to happen, anyone hoping for a larger player count experience is likely going to get it. Between unlimited sprint, the other abilities, and adding ADS to every weapons, there is a very good chance that there is going to be some new(and likely larger) BTB experience. Combine that with distinct lack of any BTB and the constant use of the ‘Arena’ qualifier when talking about things revealed thus far it makes it even more likely.

That being said, its still an awful idea to increase significantly increase the player count, especially doubling or quadrupling the number of players. A high player count game set in the Halo universe would be amazing, a high player count ‘Halo’(as in the core series) will inevitably be disappointing one way or the other. Essentially people are asking for two games in one budget and either one experience is going to suffer or they both will be mediocre.

Gameplay doesn’t magically scale up or down and retain quality. To get a set of gameplay mechanics built for one size of gameplay into a significantly larger or smaller one takes serious changes and concessions. It is the reason small scale ‘competitive’ Battlefield is a joke, the gameplay sandbox and mechanics simply are not built for the needs of a small scale competitive environment. As a result it will never come close to Counterstrike, CoD, or Halo, why play a subpar competitive game when you can play one that are built for that scale of gameplay. You can also see this issue when comparing the Console(old gen) and PC versions of BC2/BF3/BF4, some maps on Console are barren wastelands while some maps on the PC were unbelievable meat grinders devoid of tactics. The PC and console exclusive BF titles were higher quality expereinces being built with a specific platform in mind, though it will be interesting to see how things change now that consoles can handle higher player counts without a significant loss in fidelity.

Long story short, I would much rather see a high player count spin-off Halo title free from the restrictions of a numbered Halo title. There is so much more that could be done when you lack the restrictions of an established style. Playable Marines, grunts, jackals, drones, brutes, drivable Pelicans(which become much more feasible), phantoms, wolverines, cobras, mammoths, scarabs, etc all become much more of a possibility when you don’t have to worry about fitting into the balanced Halo formula.

I would be content with just seeing 16v16 multiplayer at e3.

I’d guess BTB in H5G is going to be around 16vs16, 18vs18, 20vs20.

No, 8 on 8 is perfect
