3 Steps to Adjust to Halo 4

I noticed it is quite difficult for a player with about average to adapt to Halo 4. People who have always been “good” at Halo excel easily in War games, while the rest of us have a hard time adjusting. This is not a thread to complain about all the changes 343i has made to the gameplay, but instead I bring great news! I have found a way for the average player to better themselves in Halo 4.

What I’ve come up with is this:

-Step 1-
(a) Adjust your controller settings to a comfortable state. I reccomend that you keep the default button settings, since there is no scheme that is like previous Halos.

(b)Rank up and earn SP to buy items for your loadouts (SR-15 is a good stopping point for this).

(c)Equip whatever weapons you are comfortable with, but be sure have your Armor Ability, Tactical Package, and Support Upgrade compliment each other. (For more on loadouts, see example below.)

-Step 2-
Play game after game of matchmade Spartan Ops. Matchmade games are auto set to Heroic difficulty and provide a challenge for you to learn the game. This will help you in team-based gametypes of any kind. When this becomes easy to you, move on to step 3.

-Step 3-
I believe this is where you learn the most. By now you should be somewhere between SR-15 and SR-26, if not revert to step 2. Being within that level range, you are now ready to learn to be a little more “tactical” in your playstyle. Go to Spartan Ops yet again, but this time play a solo game on Legendary. Doing this gets you a challenge and forces you to learn how to plan while you play. You WILL die very much, but it is important that you stay calm so you can actually learn. Do this as many times as you think it will help.

Loadouts
One thing I will say here is, your loadout MUST suit your playstyle. For example, my playstyle is an offensive style and I rarely use Hardlight Shield, whereas my friend plays defensively and uses the shield often. To me I can’t find but a few ways to use it effectively, but he can use it very well. Finding the right combination in your loadouts is extremely important to playing the Infinity Multiplayer. It will make or break your matches, and knowing this I have decided to share my loadouts as examples.

Loadout 1 (Spartan II)-
Role: Assault/Supoport

Primary Weapon: DMR (This is the most accurate rifle in my opinion.)
Secondary Weapon: Magnum (For use in close quarters and some mid-long range encounters)
Grenade: Frag Grenade
Armor Ability: Autosentry (What I use it for is a distraction, or a trap. Ex: Spawn the sentry in an enclosed area and lure an enemy into that area, taking minimal damage. Easy kill.)
Tactical Package: Mobility (This is used in the case of using the sentry to distract the enemy. Ex: Spawn the sentry on one side of a wall, or cover; then sprint to the other side and fire away.)
Support Upgrade: Dexterity (Reloading quicker helps when in close quarters using the pistol. Sometimes I use my quick weapon swap in lieu of reloading.)

Loadout 2 (Spartan IV)-
Role: Assault (Variant of Spartan II loadout)

Primary Weapon: Battle Rifle (While the DMR is more accurate, the BR kills quicker.)
Secondary Weapon: Magnum
Grenade: Frag Grenade
Armor Ability: Autosentry
Tactical Package: Mobility
Support Upgrade: Dexterity

Loadout 3 (Didact)-
Role: Support

Primary Weapon: Suppressor (Helps to support teamates when they are outnumbered.)
Secondary Weapon: Light Rifle (This helps to support teamates at long range.)
Grenade: Pulse Grenade (Difficult to use, but I mainly use it in close quarters, or on slow vehicles.)
Armor Ability: Hardlight Shield (allows for a retreat behind friendly lines, or defense of teamates behind you)
Tactical Package: Firepower (Allows you to use the Light Rifle as a secondary weapon)
Support Upgrade: Dexterity (When supporting teamates, its important to dish out damage as quickly as you can and adapt to the situation with a weapons change.)

Loadout 4 (Sentinel)-
Role: Defense/Support (Still working on it)

Primary Weapon: Assault Rifle (Gives you good damage in short-mid range combat. Perfect for defense).
Secondary Weapon: Boltshot (Helps you defend an area by easily killing one enemy and damaging another.)
Grenade: Frag Grenade (Bounce off walls to get a head start on repelling enemies.)
Armor Ability: Promethean Vision (See the enemy before they arrive, and prepare to strike.)
Tactical Package: Shielding (After killikng someone you want to recharge your shields as quick as possible so you can prepare for the next encounter.
Support Upgrade: Explosives (People like to open up an assault with grenades; this helps you defend against that. Avoid grenades altogether, but should you get hit, you take less damage. Also allows your grenades to explode bigger.)
