3 lane maps aren't fun

i dont think people realise how balanced infinites maps are fundamentally and how they compliment infinites core gameplay that the community is impressed with so much. The 2 exist together. boardwalk and swordbase makes halo 3’s worse maps look good. lnfinites maps might feel similar or have some questionable designs but the fundamentals of the classic gameplay is strong. The forge community will create the wacky maps youre looking for.

Reach had the worst maps by far. Thats part of what killed the momentum the series had after halo 3. It launched with like 5 uninspired new maps and like 5 gray monotone forge remakes of halo 2 maps

While my hopes for some “legacy/classic” maps returning would be awesome to see with a fresh coat pf paint, i feel like its just gonna be a rehash of blood gulch and ragnarok. While fine maps, they themselves are three lane, symmetric maps, not to mention theyve been revamping these maps lile a dead horse- quit beating it! Nostalgia bating only gets you so far…like this game.

Id rather see a map design we havent seen before, or a new interpretation of a map that wasnt as fun as the more popular ones from the past. Make them more vital and unique, rather than just bringing back “old favorites”.

I like the idea of Fracture’s laser beam, but i feel like they played it safe. The moments during BTB CTF or power core grabs charging up your base, where the ships overhead begin firing on each other, rain that debris down on the battle field, cause a building to be destroyed. Make an orbital glassing, carve out a section of map, burn it, change the atmosphere, make it hazy and muffle the sound… BTB maps could be so much more fun if there was a moment when the map would change dynamically after a certain time, or randomly. Either way it would be something new to Halo, and make maps more enjoyable as you now have new paths to forage through, and old ones cut off. Halo needs something to keep maps fresh and exciting, especially with its longer than normal lead times in terms of content drops.

Just my thoughts.

By the way are people really love blood gulch so much?
I mean I hate this map, never thought it’s a good one, just open field with nothing on it, two bases, huge empty space and left and right paths.

Nostalgia.

From a technical multiplayer standpoint it’s an atrocious map.

Who the hell ask for bland balance tho,

Yeah sure their balanced, but their also… not at all interesting.
Infinite maps are so BORING.

Also, hell no.
There is nothing of the Classic Gameplay in the core of infinite,
The Physics engine used is NOWHERE comparable to Legacy Halo,

Frankly, people say “it feels like classic halo,” have no idea what their talking about,

All the comparisons are superficial, and that is ALL it is.

Superficial.

The weapon sandbox is weak, Half the guns serve no purpose existing outside of a very VERY specific niche.
In ANY regular fight, you are better off only using the 4-5 viable weapons over nearly everything else in the game.

The Vehicle sandbox is in a horrible state, none of the maps are built for exciting Vehicle game play. And its Physics are awful, All the memorable moments that the old vehicles use to have literally do not exist.

Launching a Destroyed warthog across the map and splattering a random enemy just is not a thing that happens anymore. Getting Yeeted into the are by a Brute shot and physics jank and being murdered by the kill barrier doesn’t happen anymore.

The movement Sandbox is utterly busted.
Not nearly as much as Halo5, but you cannot seriously say that Infinites movement “feels like an extension of Legacy Halo”.

Particularly when you are Super Sliding across the maps in seconds,
And the Repulsor can Launch you so far into the air that it makes moving around maps it appears on a Joke.
And the Grappling Hook? Im sorry but since when was Spider Man flying across the map anywhere near Legacy Halo?
Its existence is antithetical to the very heavy armor to the ground designs of the Legacy Games.
You were a walking Tank, not a high speed fighter Jet zipping around maps.

I get where you are coming from but I can’t say i wholeheartedly agree for me the concept of three lanes is perfectly fine adequate sometimes it can be great the issue for me is that it isn’t the only way to Design and it’s infinitely less interesting than the more unique layouts we have seen in Prior releases

infinite has a lot of things missing/ not as good as halo 3 but it still captures the feeling and adds some new stuff. sliding is fun. repulsor and grapple are fun additions. Its never a good idea to bring lore into an argument about which gameplay is better.

the vehicle sandbox is bad, i agree. its more to do with the weapons and vehicle balance rather than the maps. Its so easy to take out vehicles. I look at a vehicle and I dont even want to get into it. Thats a red flag in game design. I miss the epic warthog runs. Now we just get cheesed affter 10 seconds by any number of things impossible to predict.

its easy to take out vehicles, its hard to stay in vehicles. with some tweaks that can be balanced properly

“Every where you go you always bring the [infinite vehicle discousre] with you” - crowded house
Hahaha

Yup but maps are def not helping the vehicles in any way jist yet we need more maps like gultch and sandtrap that emphasise their utility in the open and have designated arenas for infantry placed inside an open vehicle area so we can get that balance back and see those babys buffed!
All possible in 3 lanes 2 although i hope for a less homogenous sdt of design goals going forward for sure.

if they make open maps, the vehicles become even weaker in some aspects as theyre easier to shoot. 343 have stuck themselves in a hole as their current sandbox design limits the kind of maps they can make

Well i dont agree.
More mobile and less confined vehicles wouldnt be easier to shootthey could swerve in and out of breaks in sight lines.
As it stands they get funneled into tight spaces with little room to manouvre directly co tributing to your issues with hyjacks and frailty.
I can see how that arguement could be true but that again is reliant directly on map layout and design so by designing specifically for that is the goal if that makes sense?

The more basic closed 3 lanes would make vehicles weaker by their funnelling design.
But an avalanche or sidewinder provides 2 seperate spaces for 2 types of encounter that being vehicle or infantry dominant respectively.

I thought you would have agreed because i got my argument wrong. You said make open maps and we can buff the vehicles and I just assumed it would be the current vehicle settings.

If the vehicles are buffed, how does that affect how vehicles play on the current tight spaced maps?

Several vehicles, especially the Warthog, need buffs in order to actually be useful. They also need to nerf the damage that the sniper rifle does to vehicles.

Previously, there was the plasma pistol and the power drain pick-up that could freeze vehicles, which was basically 2 things per side. Now with disruptors, shock rifles, and dynamo grenades, there are so many ways to freeze vehicles… repeatedly… That they are basically useless when playing against people that are even slightly competent.

Oh, plus hijacking them is super easy with the grapple shot, especially in the enclosed spaces in Halo Infinite maps.

Bull! Even casuals don’t like those maps

Precision weapons that act mostly like hitscan weapons doesn’t help

I think its evident that i want buffs across board to vehicles and openaps in themselves would make them more viable. It is one of the ways in which they are buffed.
Curious what you got wrong btw?
But ya i want vehicles to be a more useful part of the sandbox and more varied less standardised 3 tight lane maps obvioisly factors in in a big way

i said vehicles wouuld be too weak in open maps with the current sandbox settings and vehicle health. If the vehicles are given more health and rebalanced weapons then its fine.

My questiion is, how does buffed vehices affect the current tight spaced maps as im sure 343 nerfed vehicles for a reason. Even if open maps are made, the tight spaced maps have to work with buffed vehicles too. The only answer is to remove offensive vehicles completely off the current maps which doesnt seem likely to happen.

Thats why if you go with my nerfed hijacking idea, you can design any kinda map you want without worrying about snowballing.

Before any of that, they need to rework the vehicle physics.

Something about them is just… wrong.
They don’t function like to use too.

I’m sure 343 changed the location of info on your HUD for a reason…

I’m sure 343 changed how scoring in King of the Hill works for a reason…

I’m sure 343 turned off collision for a reason…

I’m sure 343 turned off friendly fire for a reason…

I’m sure 343 locked customization behind armor cores for a reason…

I’m sure 343 made Halo Infinite Free-To-Play for a reason…

I’m sure 343 removed a bunch of features and then added them back 3 weeks later for a reason…

I’m sure 343 only put in 1 ranked playlist for a reason…

Just because there is a “reason” doesn’t mean it’s a good one or that it should be done.

I think the reason for nerfing vehicles is fine but nerfing vehicles is the worst solution.
