Looking forward to this. I promise I’ll participate this time and not just leave a blank space.
Can I choose any scenario out of the halo universe

Yes.
Depending on how you aim to put this across, try to aim for an original and unexplored situation/experience as possible.
For example, if covering the Fall of Reach, which has been done to death, you’ll have to write something new and interesting to keep it fresh.
Think I’d like to use my Didact short piece. You think using prewritten work would be a problem?

Not at all. As long as it’s compelling. Engage hook, and leave me wanting more.
I need help naming my entry. Any ideas?

Well that answers my question as well… I’m currently reworking that post-Halo 4 fan fiction piece I was working on that I told you about before… That’s the same story that inspired my 200-word entry.
Easy topics for creative people: The rings that haven’t been covered (01, 02, 06, 07). They offer many types of stories, mainly because none of them have a monitor designated to them, this allows you to create your own lore.
Believe it or not the most important element to a story isn’t the setting, it’s the characters. They are your priority. The setting comes after that.
Too many writers fixate on creating lore first.
Additionally, follow the elements stated in the competition description and rules. It’s the key to winning this month’s competition.
Can I choose already existing characters in the universe and create a fictional/extended scenario with them
I think I found a good name. Might change it eventually.
I really like everyone’s submissions. I don’t entirely understand the Forerunner one, though.

The rules don’t say anything against it
I’m liking what I’m seeing so far, hopefully more of the "[saved space]"s get filled in!

Yes.
Please remember to paragraph your work, folks. Makes it much easier for me to read.

Done… Do paragraph titles count in the 600-Word limit? Also, are you using a word count program or relying on an honor system from us as participants? I’m a little concerned because I used all 600 words and don’t want to be disqualified. I’ve included a link to a screenshot of my entry in Microsoft Word, which listed it as exactly 600 words. Thanks for your consideration!

Paragraph titles?
Are you planning to title every paragraph?
You only need the main title, and that won’t count in the word limit.
I’ll be using MS Word to count.
On a separate note, participants should not need to tell me what’s happening in the story, or what it’s about. That should be self explanatory.

No I didn’t title every paragraph… Only when the setting changes. I thought it would make the entry flow smoother. It’s still a coherent, linear story.
Shrugs I dunno, I gave it my best and had fun with the second writing contest. I just want to continue to improve my writing style and these competitions are helping me along. Hopefully you’ll enjoy the read.
Are we allowed to totally scrap and re-haul our story from scratch if we so chose?
Man, I also found the worst opening to any book I’ve ever seen, called The Tower, The Monster, and The Tree. Literally just a person describing what they see out the window in purple prose, and then talking to some random goon for a bit. Bo-ring.
