24 Hour Cease Fire: Request for Halo Players

Good evening,

While I release that Halo 4 is only a little over a month old, I have a personal favor to ask of you, online Halo community. This Friday, December 21, 2012, the general online gaming community is holding a 24 Cease Fire for ALL online games to honor the memory of the victims of last week’s shooting in Connecticut. This is in NO WAY an attempt to spread a political agenda, but rather simply a sign of respect for those who suffered and the lives that were lost.

We currently have nearly 3000 participants.

I do hope that the Halo community, being one of the largest FPS communities out there, and in my opinion also one of the finest, can help lead by example. Thank you all for your support. <3

Please try to keep this topic alive until Friday, and thank you!

Best Regards,
The Tyrant

Sorry but people are not gonna stop playing a game for 24 hours.

We already have an identical thread to this. The general consensus is that no we wont stop playing.

Imo the events that triggered this are appaling and horrendus. But its got absolutely nothing to do with gaming or Halo 4, or me. My heartfelt sympathies go to famlilies of those involved in the tragedy. But as I said its got jack to do with me, so no I wont stop playing just for some silly event that does nothing to help those affected.

Instead of doing something pointless like not playing video games, why don’t we donate or if you are religous, pray.

no thanks.

Indeed. Not playing a game for a day is pointless. Donating time, money, and effort to help those affected is what is required. Not a silly “no play” event.

Ive already gave my wishes out to people who i know lost loved ones. And ive done a moment of silence for a few days. I’m not going to “cease fire” But if i can think of a clever emblem that represents the silence and im on halo 4 ill do that. Just like i did for Breast cancer awarness.

While my condolences go out to everyone involved with that situation, that Cease Fire would never work.

Wow this is a terrible idea. Not only does this connect video games to shootings even more (are they asking sewing circles to stop on this day? etc etc) but it doesn’t accomplish anything.

It sounds like you guys are missing the point. Not a surprise on the internet I suppose.

Allow me to clarify:

  1. This is NOT an attempt to blame video games for the events that occurred.
  2. By not blowing each other up for merely a day. Only a single day out of your entire lives, it’s a simple sign of respect. It’s not meant to change the face of the world any more than attending a funeral. A simple sign of respect.
  3. Donate if you can, but not everyone has the ability.
    4) If you choose not to participate, fine, but at the very least, show your respect by not bashing the event. Hostility towards it will only give the media an ACTUAL reason to bash gamers. Don’t feed the frenzy.

Thanks.

Touching OP but its not gonna happen.

Respect is earned, not given.

Me not playing for 24 hours is not gonna help those poor families out there, alls this is doing is connecting the shootings with video games this event might have been in good taste but will do nothing but make the whole thing worse.

While I’m not playing Halo for the next few days (taking a break), I am playing Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War and nothing will change. The enemies of humanity, be they the innumerable Ork hordes, the twisted servants of the Ruinous Powers of Chaos, the ancient and mysterious Necrons, or the simply annoying Eldar they will still be shot at and they will still die to the hands of the Imperial Guard and my Space Marines.

It is not out of disrespect for the dead, no the dead should be mourned. There simply is no respite against xenos and abominations.

I can show respect as well as enjoy my personal life, thank you very much.

everytime someone post these forums they get locked. 343i will not shut down the servers and they shouldn’t have to. i feel bad for the familys but that has nothing to do with me playing halo

This tragedy is a mental health issue, not gun rights or videogames. Go away

That said, put your flag at half mast, we don’t need a rally

You can’t stop me from forging!

Edit: Wait, why are people stopping simply playing video games to “honor” the victims of the shooting? That’s hardly a way to remember the dead.

You -Yoink- hypocritic smuchks are not gonna ruin my friday night. This shooting happen everday in Africa and suddenly when it is in MURRIKA its gotta be a big deal and while we are at it blame videogames for it. Please get the hell out if you got an IQ under 100.

This is something that truly affects us all. The person who did this was an avid COD fan. THIS has already drawn attention towards FPS violence. You should all be worried that the genre might be banned altogether.
