21 Year Halo Love Over

Halo has always my main game. I achieved Halo Champ 96 in Halo 5 so I’m only half scrub.

Current day, Halo Infinite. It’s so team-centric that individual skill means little. It’s all positioning & team shot.

70 percent accuracy? You’re still ranking down. Like objective? Well you’re playing slayer - like it or not. Like slayer? Well you’re playing objective, like it or not.

Playing unranked games is like playing poker for no money so for me is a waste of time.

The developers unwisely listened to pros only to make Infinite. Now they dont even have enough population to have multiple ranked playlists. All ranked games mixed together makes people play what they don’t like. But they have a game so poorly made that there’s not enough population to have multiple ranked playlists apparently.

I’m sure some will disagree. The graphics are cool. But for this 20+ year Halo veteran, the love affair is ended. They built a game that caused me to quit after 21 years of dedicated play.

It sucks too… Because I loved Halo.

The 343i focusing mainly on the opinion of professional Halo players, forgetting the rest of the community that represents the majority % of base players, to end up not satisfying anyone.

Focusing on competitive, esports, and other nonsense has only served to hasten the death of multiplayer.

Esports are a disease and devs who listen to the “Pros” are morons.

Nobody likes nerds that represent a small fraction of the community who only interact with a small fraction of the actual game making sweeping decisions for the game at large and devs should be smart enough to see that.

Too bad they’re not and they keep doing it. You can cosplay as ESPN all you want with the commentators and the cash prizes, that doesn’t mean any of those teams and players deserve any ounce of the developmental pull they unjustly have.

Reporting my post just makes people more likely to unhide and look at it due to curiosity, checkmate esports boot-lickers. The reactions don’t lie.

Yeah mate it sucks. I’m keeping the embers burning with MCC hoping they complete everything that still needs doing and that Infinite pulls a No Man’s Sky. If it doesn’t happen they’re compelling me to be done with Halo after 21 years too.

I understand the sentiment and as someone who has also been around for over 20 years and Halo being my favorite series I can honestly say we have been through worse.

Reach had probably the worse sandbox to date. The DMR is just blatantly OP even when comparing it to the OP BRs from previous titles. Reach also got rid of dual wielding, chump in infection, elite armor customization, and added psuedo loadouts.

Halo 4 is my least favorite and i will go as far to say its the worst Halo game and is a bad Halo game. While the multiplayer was fun it added full loadouts thus finally cutting off Halo’s arena shooter roots, changed the art style, added prometheans which are just not fun or well designed enemies, has the worst antagonist in Halo i.e. the didact, changed Cortana and Chief into people they were not, made characters in the campaign make dumb decisions to build tension when a normal human would not ever of made those decisions, and i would argue ruined the Covenant designs. Also spartan ops was just terrible.

Halo 5 added in thrusters by default. While i am fine with sprint and clamber as they basically just replace the crazy high jump hieghts of older Halos and sprint is just something modern FPS games need or you need Doom 2016 movement speed. The thrusters on the other hand make Halo 5 play so different. It feels more like the armor is what makes you special like Iron Man instead of you being a super human with armor that just protects you. I actually argue H5 would have been a better new IP than an Halo game because similar to how Titanfall worked while advanced movement in COD didn’t i don’t think H5s movement, while fun, works in Halo. It also has the worst maps to date and most you play now look lazily built in forge. H5 also has the worst armor customization since H2 because you can only choose a helmet and then everything else. Not to mention the REQ packs are just loot boxes. It also kept the same bad enemy design and art style from H4 and Locke is just a bad character. Im not sure what they could have done to make him better but Buck is so good so Locke in comparison looks even worse. The H5 sandbox was also bloated and attackments felt unnecessary.

In comparison Infinite is the best Halo game 343 has made by far and aside from how armor is unlocked and the lack of a performance based XP system i would say Infinite is near perfect. So don’t give up now because Infinite is the light at the end of the tunnel even though that tunnel is long as who knows when we will finally get forge and more maps and modes.

I’m also in that grizzled ancient category that finally moved on. Obviously I’m still interested in Halo because I’m posting on Halo forums, but Infinite was a huge let down for way too many reasons to list right now. Maybe the next Halo game will draw me back. Halo 5 was the first time Halo had been my primary game of choice since Halo 3, so it’s possible the next title will redeem the series for me. In the mean time I will continue skimming the Halo forums from time to time to check the status of the series. I hope that one day you will find that spark that reignites your passion for the series like 5 did for me
