legendaries usually are op (as in overpowered). i typically get 15-18k with them. maybe im just lucky too lol idk

Yeah if you use the legendary boost and you’re one of the best at that specific objective you get TONS of exp. Iv’e gotten around 18K with a legendary boost a couple times
I received 15k points from a boost. 20k is awesome. You get more if you are in the top xx % for the gambit. Congratulations!
when i played with LT Wasp i told him i had 2 of those and the squad let me kill all the ads in the base and around the bosses
i got 22k for it
these boosts are worth it if you are running with 12s

What was it for? Was it arena or Warzone and what kind was it, meaning was it a jackpot or was it something else?

That is because you used an arena legendary boost. Most legendary XP boosts for Warzone will give you anywhere from 15-20k depending on how well you do. In the case of the OP, he was probably near top on AI kills. I’ve used a few AI kill legendary boosts and received around 20k xp each time. The guaranteed boosts give about 5k less, at least for me. Warzone legendary RP boosts have given me 5-10k REQ points on average.
Wow I must be super lucky.
I dropped a Legendary AI kills one game and got 18K. I spent the whole time killing the bosses support and enemy marines.
Next game i dropped an Ultra Rare Medal Count and got 21K!! Not even kidding 21,000 XP in one game. Needless to say I got 35+ kills so the medal count would have been big.

My boost for AI kills was 15,600, giving me a total about the same as yours, a little over 21,000. I wasn’t disappointed in the slightest.

I feel like there is a meme for this situation.
I had something like that once. I used a legendary Jackpot and it boosted me a level and a half. I was already in the 70s at that point so thats something on the order of 40,000+ I think.
