Will 2017 be the year that Halo comes back big on PC?
As we all know, it’s constant back and forth in the community on whether or not 343 will release H3A this year, but I find the vast majority of people are overlooking the most critical aspect of all…
PC Gamers have not finished the fight on PC. Only Halo 1 and 2 were ported to PC, then PC gamers were abandoned with 3.
Solution? Release a good port and fully functional MCC, including H3A in it, on Steam, for $60. That would be #1 seller on Steam for weeks, if not months.
This would also garner favor and help Halo 6’s eventual release on PC. (Just releasing Halo 6 on PC without help from MCC+H3A will result in very low sales, why buy 6 when you haven’t even played 3, the best of the franchise?)
Pitfalls to avoid? Do not release this as a Windows 10 exclusive through the Windows Store, that is literal sales suicide; nobody uses it, it’s clunky, glitchy, and has slow download times, Steam is the far superior service in every aspect,
Will it happen? I play a lot of XCOM (Long War 1 and 2), if this was a shot I was taking, it’d probably be a 3% to hit. So it probably won’t, because of incompetence from the higher ups, but should it happen? Yes, yes it should. Morally speaking, it’s the right thing to do. PC fans helped build the Halo franchise by buying Halo 1 and 2 on PC, then they were given the middle finger, and 10 years later, here we are. Is that any way to treat once loyal fans? Will releasing H3A+MCC on Steam absolve -Yoink!- of past treachery, no it won’t, but it’s a step in the right direction.
The biggest gaming market is right there, just waiting to give you their money. But if you don’t want it that is fine, PC gamers have unlimited other games to purchase with their hard earned cash (New games release daily on Steam). Just please -Yoink!-, 343, do the right thing. This franchise is in a downward slide at the moment, this will help bring back some former glory.
But just remember, if you do decide to go on PC, you have to do it right on day 1. Standards are higher on PC, and PC gamers will either be your best friends or your worst enemies depending on what state you release your product in. Get it done right, do a professional job, nail the ports, and you will reap the benefits.
Halo 5 Forge was a testing ground on porting to PC, an opportunity to get the team’s feet wet working with PC ports, and an attempt to gauge the PC’s interest in Halo, but it was clumsy and mishandled to the max. (Download the newest Halo’s multiplayer and Forge for free, unlimited multiplayer and customs with others? Sounds great right? Except it wasn’t, and nobody plays it.)
Only time will tell, but you have one shot, one opportunity, to seize everything you ever wanted ($$$$$$$$$$$$$), in one moment, would you capture it, or just let it slip?
