Just because the whole industry has become exploitative, doesn’t mean this is ok.
The only coatings that don’t look like trash are paid for and not even included in the battle pass. All of the ones in the season pass look like trash, and there are literally 3 different blue shaders. This game would have been better off being $60, actual Halo, and having cosmetic bundles as dlc if necessary, after giving players a generous amount of content for the price tag. They keep making the argument that a $60 price tag is not sustainable, and it is absolute bs. Games as a service as a whole is just a greedy excuse for shareholders to line their pockets and executives to buy their fifth yacht, or some summer house in a country poor people don’t even know about.
Those are all predatory as hell too. That doesn’t mean we should normalize Microsoft doing it too.
Beyond that, is Riot Games owned by a parent company valued at 2.4 TRILLION dollars? Is EA or Epic Games valued that highly? If you add the valuation of EA ($35.5B), Epic ($28.7B), AND Riot ($26.1B) together, it’s not even $100B. 343’s owners are literally the worlds most valuable company, surpassing Apple back in October.
But please, keep telling me how they desperately need to overcharge with aggressive monetization to keep their flagship franchise afloat…
I wouldn’t mind them being 20 if I could mix and match them on whatever armor core I wanted to, but no, they are locked to a single core. Unlock them and I would have bought the soldier one with a quickness
Though i could see both sides of this argument 20$ for armor that the player originally had is not the best idea now if it’s armor or something new that no other halo game has had yet then that’s a little different.
I would spend a lot more money in the store if i could just buy the things i want without being forced to buy 10 other things i dont give a crap about along with it
The problem is Infinite is not a true f2p game even if anyone says it out loud to everyone or 50 times to themselves to try and convince themselves that it is, it’s still not going to change the fact that infinite is not a true f2p game. Warframe is what you call a true f2p game, in spite of anyone’s opinion about it.
If you bought the battle pass, it’s not a “f2p game”.
If you buy the $60 campaign it’s not a “f2p game”.
It’s a game that has a portion of its content that is free to play, MP, nothing else. Everything else is behind a paywall and I’m sure future DLC for the campaign/open-world is going to be as well, and who knows what else in terms of content will be behind a paywall because this is the "new and improved 343"
So from where I stand it doesn’t matter how anyone tries to work around it, the pricing is ridiculous. for a less-than-half-backed game that has major issues in just about every aspect of it.
With this logic, there are zero free to play games then. The whole point of a F2P game, is that you can play the core gameplay without the need to spend unncessary money that halts your entertainment. Battlepasses can be unnecessary. Cosmetics can be considered as well. The campaign is a whole separate game. Anyone who buys extra is just those willing to support the game, they didn’t really “buy” the game.
Thats literally what every other game is too? Destiny 2 has core multiplayer with its story expansions being paid. RTS games like Starcraft, Age of Empires. Fortnite was literally a paid story game until its F2P Battle royale was a thing. You can’t even single out Halo Infinite in this case. Theres a lot of things the game is flawed in, but this isn’t one of them.
Besides, there has yet to be a SINGLE thing in Infinite that cost extra money that wasn’t just cosmetics. Custom Browser, forge, maps, modes, event battlepasses, current and now future armor cores, all been free. Infinite’s “portion” of content is currently its main content and it shows.
I mean unless you always cook at home, I doubt you haven’t gone to the nearest fast food or takeout for the same $20 price anyways.
I don’t know. I see a bunch from way back January as well. Mine suddenly did and I was going to leave it alone, but I realize I had more points about this now after a year later–
$20 is totally stupid just for a single set of armor, just because other f2p games do it doesn’t make it right. it’s also not like in 2010 where the actual game took priority. with how infinite didn’t have coop and mission replay at launch, lacking so much yet stuffed full of cosmetics, making a game was not their priority but wasting peoples money was.
Just because other games do this shady "micro"transaction f2p bullcrap doesn’t mean that Halo should. Nor does the pricing of the content in those games justify the pricing. LoL is not a good example because that system completely changes the skin to a set look. What we get in Infinite is typically a helmet, maybe a chest piece, maybe shoulders, maybe a visor, possibly a coating and then usually some emblems you don’t care about. And originally all of that was only available for 1 core and mostly is because only visors are cross core.
In order to get the same level of uniqueness as a League skin would require:
For one thing, how does an armor set (skin) not differ than other F2P games with their gun skins, third person model skins, weapon skins, differ than Infinite’s armors? Its only because they were new. The problem Infinite set up, was that they were re-selling armor sets that were in the game before. That doesn’t mean that them selling anything new in the future isn’t worth it.
Another thing, if they did relaunch with more content, that has nothing to do if a armor set is worth buying or not. Its just a matter if its a good armor.
I don’t agree that reused armor sets or the current customization we have is worth the money. But anything new in recreation is all determined if its good as well. Meaning something in the future has to be worth it and I think 343i has better designs in the making.
i think the difference is they at least offer more game to play, probably why some people feel like they can spare 20 for a single skin but i dont really know except no matter what it’s not worth it just for a few cosmetics.
yeah if the game lauched with more but still had these stupid high prices maybe i wouldn’t be as angry. i might actually be playing the game, still wouldn’t spend money just for cosmetics. with how it launched mixed with how the shop and mtxs are i cant help but feel they dont have the right priorities. after a year and just getting the stuff we should’ve had at launch and still a crap ton of cosmetics, my thoughts haven’t changed.
I also disagree with Infinite’s customization being more expressive. Its still just Reach’s shoulders, waist, wrist, kneepads. Nothing really changed. Thats why I believe the bundles they sell atm with armor pieces, coatings and some emblems is a better deal. An addition with any of those actually being new cosmetics with a lower price is definitely a better deal than before.
Though i understand if people want to earn more than pay, they can always just make event bundles that allow you to purchase those cosmetics pre-locked and then earn and unlocked through its event currency. 343i stays with their FOMO idea, and players still earn what they get.
