2 spare Spartan Cores after fully upgrading all Equipment(?)

Unless I’m mistaken (I haven’t fully completed the campaign yet), I believe I somehow have two spare Spartan Cores - which are unusable. as I’ve fully upgraded all four equipment slots.

I earned the “Mjolnir Master - Acquire all Spartan Cores” achievement after discovering the second of what I believe to be the accidental spares.

I recall one instance from much earlier in my playthrough (during a separate session, for the same save game), it appeared as though I’d acquired a Spartan Core, and then very soon after loaded a checkpoint (after either a death or myself loading a checkpoint, I believe it was the former), and then being able to acquire that same Spartan Core, although the counter hadn’t decremented to what it was before the load checkpoint. To clarify, this may not be accurate, but I do believe this was the case from my recollection.

However, to my knowledge, this only occurred once - and I’m not sure myself whether this is the cause of what appears to be a bug.

There are more than two. Not sure if something is coming later or just giving people options about how to get them as some are far easier/more interesting to get than others.

I think you need 5 X (1+2+3+3) cores to fully upgrade which is 45.

There are 45 in the open world I think and a couple in missions I think.

I believe I had 2 spare in the end but still had to get them for the achievement.

Not sure, but I’m pretty sure I have 5 extra after everything is upgraded. Unless I missed something, there’s got to be more in upcoming dlc.

The total amount of Spartan Cores required to upgrade everything is 45 and it’s also the total amount of Spartan Cores obtainable.

However, there do definitely exist a glitch which allows a user to obtain a Spartan Core more than once and I have also been affected by a such glitch in my LASO save which has resulted in being able to get 7 additional Spartan Cores on top of the 45 required to upgrade everything. On the other hand, I’m unaware on how to reproduce this glitch.

I have 7 spare Spartan Cores. And have upgraded all my abilities and cleared the entire map.

My guess is there’s enough scattered around the open world that you can still get fully upgraded if you miss a couple during the missions that you can’t go back for.

I played through and got them all in one sitting. One fob at a time and there weren’t cores that were repeated. They just have more available than are required. Lots of games give more than you actually need if you take the time to explore. You’re probably looking into it a bit too much.

None of the Spartan Cores are locked in mission exclusive areas. Every Spartan Core can be found in the open world area.

Items that can be found in mission exclusive areas are UNSC Audio Logs, Banished Audio Logs and Skulls.

My guess is that if there is DLC later on, we have a few spare cores to either max out our abilities even more, or they’re for a 5th ability that comes later. Probably repulsor, but something new would be cool too.
Perhaps a DLC would make it so you can upgrade the vehicles somewhat. So like give the warthog an upgrade and make it an ONI hog from Halo 5 or something.

If you have managed to get all Spartan Cores without getting any duplicates due to a glitch, then you should have exactly 0 Spartan Cores remaining due to there existing only 45 Spartan Cores across the map and that you need all of them to fully upgrade every single Spartan Ability.

There’s Spartan Cores in closed off missions too.

If that is the case, can you specify which cores and prove that these cores aren’t accessible outside the missions?

I finished the campaign, hand my armor fully upgraded and still havent gotten the achievement for spartan cores. I have an additional 19 spartan core, and i have scoured the map multiple time to see if ive missed any and nothing.
