After I moved around my furniture I no longer pick up a decent signal from my office to my xbox.
Anyone know if I could run two modems in my house? The xbox is right next to a cable hook up, or is this just something I need to call my ISP about.
I’m just wanting the best connection possible for Halo 4.
Technically, you could run a second modem so long that cable hookup is active.
If your ISP is like mine, they will charge you for a second modem.
Two modems may also split your internet essentially making the signal weaker. That really depends on how many devices connect to each modem.
My internet is pretty fast, think it is 18mb.
If they wanna charge me extra for a second modem I’ll just use a long -Yoink- e cable and stash the wireless router into the attic in the central area of the house like I should have done a long time ago.
8mb faster than mine.
If you have a separate router, that’s “differentish”. you could set one of those up anywhere so long the Ethernet cable reached the yellow or blue input port on the back.
Now by differentish, I mean you will still have to run a wire somewhere however, the separate router will be better for the signal for what ever wireless devices you have in that area of your house.
I find those Netgear N-300 routers to handle lots of wireless equipment well on a much larger range compared to my supplied modem/router combo.
Buy a new antennae for the modem. There’s really good ones that boost it very far.
Who else came here because of the title?
Anyway, now i know you said you rearranged furniture but if it’s possible try and make sure there’s no extremely thick objects or mirrors in the way, these objects tend to do the most harm
For most ISPs, you can’t use two modems unless you have two authorized accounts. In your case, I’d recommend purchasing some powerline network adapters!

oooooo…be careful. You will be charged, big time. Trust me, i am running 5 servers, 3 modems and 4 routers. Unfortunately, i don’t have to pay b/c i work for a networking company. I’ll PM you steps on what to do.
