Is a 1v1 playlist with community made and tweaked maps and gametype’s ever possible 343i?
Been tried before in Halo 3 and didn’t work at all due to Host booters, network manipulation, camping with power weapons etc. Basically Halo doesn’t play well at all when it comes to 1v1 playlists. For it to actually work for 1v1 playlist the gameplay would have to be like say Quake gameplay.
it wouldn’t work. Been done.in Halo3. Even with a waypoint over the leader’s head, it didn’t turn out well and Bungie had to remove the playlist.
I believe it’d be a quit fest. 1 v 1s can be fun IF both players are same skill and BOTH play the game correctly (no camping, host booting…) and are willing to finish the game even if they’re taking a beating. People would quit out of lobbys as soon as they realize their opponent looks stronger, or they’d quit after getting killed a few time in a row.
I see much more games finishing in quits (you can add booting and lag too) than an actual victory and neverending time spent waiting in lobbys, especially if you have a scary KD or CSR, people won’t want to face the better players.
And it sure wouldn’t work with the ramdomness of Infinity settings. (classic example other guy get ICannon you get needler) All gametypes would have to be ‘Pro’.

What do you mean it didn’t work?

What is camping?
I feel like the term camper has a very vague definition.

Well imagine you’re playing a 1v1 and the other player doesn’t move around at all and just sits behind corners with whatever weapon waiting around for you to pass by. That’s what I meant. It doesn’t make for a very fun game.

Okey. So a camper is someone who sits behind a corner and waits until the target enters his field of view.
For this to be effective the camper needs a radar right? A camper cannot know for sure that you will come otherwise right?
Did you know that the MLG Official 1v1 gametype had no radar?
I must honestly admit that the kind camping you are talking about never works in high level game-play. High level players have built up so much awareness, sitting there waiting behind a wall wouldn’t work.
In high level game-play you must try to confuse the person you are playing against, by moving around inside a specific area as much as possible.
When high level players are playing they think like this:
Where did he kill me? Remember that he is still around there when you spawn.
What direction did he move after he killed me? Can you counter him?
What weapons did he have? Did he have the sniper? Is he going to a place where he effectively can use the Sniper?
Is he timing weapons on the map? Is he going for a power weapon?
Does the opponent know spawns? Will he move to my spawn after I re-spawn?
High level 1v1s are really more of a thinking-match than anything else. “Camping” is definitely not an option, but holding an area is. When I am playing a 1v1 I can almost always tell where the enemy player is.
well if the maps where smaller scaled it would be obvious fairly quickly where they are unlike regular size maps
I’d enjoy a 1v1 playlist, but there’s so much that could go wrong.
Boosters, cheaters, the fact that none of Halo 4’s maps are designed for 1v1s.
I also doubt the population would support it.
I would except and encourage any FFA gametypes. There is a huge lack of them. If this game is evolving, it should become more lone wolf friendly as well as staying team friendly. It is a sad thing to have to cheat at a video game.
I wouldn’t expect it to work well with h4.
-
host advantage is minimized with client trust but is still an advantage. ( dedicated servers for Halo 5 will be helpful here)
-
matching for skill will be difficult. (Population is usually so bad that matches are nearly randomized and then rear aged so the average skill of team A matches the average skill of team B ) finding an individual match to make an interesting game worth playing might mean long search times if your skill is above or below average. (What are the chances average folk will populate this playlist)

HLG. The smaller a team size is, the higher temptation to play like this, I freaking love it. If I ever get matched with someone I know is far enough beneath my skill… I would just take a small lead and the power weapons and hide somewhere funny. Nothing funnier than winning a game with 1 kill.
It could be done with the right map layouts and weapon sets, but those don’t currently exist in H4 in a 1v1 capacity.
