Pre-release the Thruster pack was 1st person, but before it shipped they changed it to 3rd person. Personally, I liked it a lot better when it was 1st person. In its current state it’s kind of jarring to quickly go from 1st person to 3rd person. I feel it would be a lot more smooth if it was strictly 1st person.
Here is what it looked like in case you haven’t seen it.

okay the reason why they took it out from 1st person is because it is a blinding light. Sometimes Halo 4 will mess up and your thruster pack will put you in first person. I has happened to me about 20 times and it sucks. Its like a burst of a Halo 3 flare just 10 times more intense. No! Is should stay as a 3rd person view. Unless you want to find a quick and fun way to become blind.

Hardly blinding, it’s just some extra light around the screen and no where near the i tensity of the the flare which isn’t even that bad. Using that logic should flashbangs be removed from several games because they have a flash. Even halo using the whiting of the screen at various other points like when a cutscene happens mid game play (like the one at the end of forruner in halo 4.
OT would be a cool feature to have, but it should be togglable for those who prefer one or the other.
Why do we need the Thruster Pack as a way to dodge and maneuver around our enemies? Why is it that we have to rely on a propulsion system to fulfill such a role, rather than having Evade? The main argument with Evade in Reach was that it was hard to hit someone who was evading… That was kinda the point of the ability, if I’ve read the definition of evade right.

Evade wasnt in halo 4 so we’re improving upon that and there might not be enough time to begin a roll but enough time to activate a thruster pack.

My question pertained to why 343i decided to replace Evade with Thruster Pack in the first place (was it ever explained/is there something I’m missing). Also, I don’t see how there would be more reaction time to T-pack than to Evade. They would be activated by the same controls and, in my experience the Evade in Reach actually went just as fast. The only problem I saw was that Evade in Reach could be used twice before needing to ‘recharge’, which could’ve easily been changed.

True I’d rather have evade. I didn’t mean in game time what I meant was the spartan would have to begin a role which will take one maybe two seconds longer than activating a quick boost. It’s all down to time, because you may. It have time to evade but you may have enough time to thruster pack out of the way. Also as cool as evade was it altered the hitbox a bit too much plus removing thruster pack like your hinting would ruin lots of custom games and MM strategies since unlike evade it’s used for many things such as assisted jumping distance and closing the distance with a target when using a sword.
My main argument for thruster being better is that I can use the thruster in the air. I don’t have to be on the ground to use it or roll around, which allows me to use it off of lifts and to jump backwards over enemies.
Simply put, the thruster has more uses than evade did.

Both could return
Evade: longer distance dodging however leaves the user unable to shoot for some time and can’t be used for much else other than evasion.
Thruster: all current uses and doesnt impact upon the players ability to shoot as much as evade.
This makes both parties happy and adds more variety.

As far as I can see, T-packing is somewhat slowed down in terms of how fast the movement is. As for ruining custom games, I could still see it being employed in Infection/Flood and therefore as a custom games option (although I typically think asking for solely custom options is a tad foolish). Still, using it in Flood could secure its remain for such things.
Of course hit-boxes are going to change, that’s part of the point. Evading is meant to decrease your likelihood of being killed, especially by a headshot. In the end, i think that evade would be a more useful feature by default than sprint (IMO Sprint should be taken out and simply have base player speed increased). It would have its limitations in terms of how you could use it and (assuming armor abilities would be placed on the map like most people, myself included, seem to want it) Thruster Pack could be given more of a dynamic and useful boost. That could be balanced by making it like a power weapon.

Fair enough. What if we got rid of Sprint, replaced it with Evade as a default innate ability, and kept the Thruster Pack as an armor ability (possibly enhancing it to better differentiate it from Evade and place it on the map, similar to a power weapon or overshields)?

Well, it doesn’t have to have that blinding effect. I don’t see why it can’t be in 1st person without it, it’s not like it’s mandatory.
The 1st person view looked somewhat unfinished in that clip I linked anyways. If I were to add any changes to it I’d remove the flare and make the weapon face down like when you’re sprinting instead of disappearing completely.

I’m pretty sure spartans and elites couldn’t do a perfect barrell roll across an twelve foot distance in real life. That is why thruster pack has replaced it.

Nah, HLS just need to be buffed to allow the user normal speed and either more protection or the ability for the user to recharge their shields when using it.
