I just thought I’d see what thoughts others might have on this, as this was just an idea that scrolled by my mind.
Traditionally, I enjoy the first-person view much more in a game, and I find it more immersive.
But then I think of Star Wars BF II and how that has the option of both, and with mechanisms like roll/dive; the third-person view can help give it a more streamlined experience.
I wondered if having the option in Halo could be good.
I’m not a proponent of one over the other - I’m just interested in seeing people’s thoughts.
The only thing I can think of is the third-person view would allow for a larger view area by definition. Granted that is users choice…not opposed or for it either way. One of my favorite games was ‘Army of Two’
That would be interesting. I always liked the third person mode in Star Wars Battlefront. It would be really cool if that were an option in campaign but I don’t think that they’d do it for multiplayer because people would complain about corner peeking.

This is why it won’t ever be a thing in MP. While 3rd person is fine for a game that’s primarily for immersing yourself in the world (which BF 2 does a good job of imo) for a game that is more tuned to a more refined and competitive shooter experience it is too much of an advantage.
Definitely would not be good for multiplayer. But I would love taking some nice screenshots of chief in third person, on something besides a turret or assasination.

I’m hoping and expecting that theatre mode returns for campaign. Then you can use the third-person view and take screenshots to your heart’s content!

Just like SW BF2, third person just overall best perspective. You’re at a disadvantage on first person by that point. And nobody would use it.
3rd person is bad for immersion and bad for a competitive atmosphere. However, I play Halo casually and any opportunity I get to look at the Spartan I’ve created is a good one. Maybe a custom games option or a skull?

I’m happy to see a new thread about this. I have always wanted an option to play in 3rd person. Like many other shooters we get to customise our characters but never or rarely see them. I also feel more immersed in 3rd person. I say go for it, as long as it’s an option, some games have the feature and it woks well. I’m also ok with the current Halo set up of FPS and 3rd when vehicles or using turrets. Choices are good though.
Not for the main series, but maybe for a spin-off. Switching to 3rd person is not only a cosmetic change, it affects gameplay, since it dramatically expands your field of view, being more suitable for a cover based shooter like Gears or for stealth games.
