19 years of Halo multiplayer and for the first time I do not like Halo. It really is depressing to me

In a world where life moves a million miles an hour and there are so many games and things to do out there, playing a game for a substantial amount of times requires sacrifice of playing other games and such, so having progression, rewards, all that out-of-game stuff gives more meaning a weight behind everything you just did, cause you can look back at everything you’ve gotten- not only to enjoy using and equipping- but to validate the time you spent on one game over another.

Sure you can play a game for fun, but there’s a lot of fun games out there, so you need to go further, if you’re gonna pick between two fun games, you wanna pick the fun game that gives the most rewards and progression so you can look back on all that you’ve accomplished and feel validated you made the right decision to commit to this game.

One of my favorite games of all times is Team Fortress 2, and there is next to no progression in that game, but I still play it a lot because it’s a stellar game, but I feel like I’m almost wasting my time with it when after 2,000 hours I have nothing really to show for it.

All and all, these are video games, and how we enjoy them is up to the individual, we are all different, so try not to disregard what another person values.

Yeah this Free-to-Play model is way worse than:

The FTP model in Halo: CE in 2001
The FTP model in Halo 2 in 2004
The FTP model in Halo 3 in 2007
The FTP model in Halo Reach in 2010
The FTP model in Halo 4 in 2012

Bring back the original FTP or there’s no way we can have fun playing this game.

You say you are old enough to have been playing halo for 19 years, yet you seem to be unable to enjoy a halo game because of a battlepass that can be 100% ignored and nothing in the game changes.

That seems poorly considered. I thought the point of games was to have fun, not earn fake internet points.

15 years of that 19 years has been with systems that allows us to earn ranks and unlock armor to customize our spartans. Those 15 years out weighs the first 4.

Everything in the battlepass can be ignored and nothing about the actual game changes.

You guys have forgotten what video games are about.

Just because you don’t think unlocking cosmetics is part of the game doesn’t mean you are right. It has been a core part of the game since Halo 3. Yes gameplay is the key factor, but so is having fun customizing your looks.

Wow you dominated and you didn’t care just because you didn’t get some xp so you can unlock some cute clothes for your spartan boi. Sums up what’s wrong with gamers now days.

I bet the number of people who spent more than 5% of their time in halo 2-5 customizing their character is almost zero.

Yup, it’s lame that customization is paywalled. No, it doesn’t meaningfully affect the game. Every player is fully capable of deciding “I’m going to play this to have fun” instead of deciding “I’m going to play this game to unlock fake internet points and get different colors for my armor”.

the fact that the xp progression system is the only thing people are really complaining about shows that this game is solid. quit whining about small minute details that will most likely be polished in the future. the fact that youre not having fun because you dont get extra exp towards battlepass for a triple kill? give me a break dude. lmao.

Again with this “it doesnt bother me so why does it bother you” or “just ignore its cosmetics” are the biggest non arguments this forum has ever seen.
This is halos future, we have all become accustomed to making our spartan look cool over the years, this is now a fundamental part of halo, its the goshdarn tagline for promoting the multiplayer “become your own spartan”
It is standard in halo that we get to customize our spartans now and to have it paywalled is astonishing.
People enjoy looking cool, its fine that you dont care about armour, many do.
I dont know what you hope to achieve by just trying to stomp down others opinions and criticisms of the game they love and care about

I mean progression is one of the main motivators in any game. We have custom games, that’s where i’ll be spending my fun at, but what if I want to get a bit competitive and play for some glory? How will I show off my skills if it won’t even be displayed on my service record? Even as a kid, I played for fun but even so young I had the urge to reach skill level 50 in Halo 3. That’s more than enough proof for me that we need a better progression system. I would be more than satisfied if we got a ranking system similar to that of Halo 3 or Halo: Reach. There’s currently no drive to dominate in multiplayer. Shouldnt have to settle for less, this could be the last Halo in the series. Let’s make it a badass journey.

I have been playing Halo since 2001 and this has never been important, meaningful, or motivating to me. Customization in an FPS like this is a cool add-in feature, but is not meaningful to the actual game.

I would argue that everyone should be ignoring the battlepass and challenges. Don’t care about customization, like me? Great - save your money and enjoy the game. Care a lot about customization? Then don’t participate in this predatory F2P monetization model that affirms a publisher’s decision to strip out all your beloved customization and paywall it. Ignore it and play the game. Want to give 343 money? Give em $60 for the campaign.

The fundamental issue for people who like customization is that it’s stripped out of the game and paywalled. That will still be true if they fix the current progression system. If you care about customization in Halo, you are getting screwed. If this stuff is actually important to you, speak with your wallet and ignore the whole thing.

Do you not understand thats why people are posting about it in the forums??? We dont want this and it can change.
Its great you dont care bro, ive been playing since halo 2 and i damn near creamed my pants when i realized in halo 3 you could change your armour, reach was another huge step.
Infinite undoubtably has the best customization system in any halo hands down, but with such a huge step forward they took 1000 steps back and players are voicing their opinions about it

Im not just gonna sit and not doing anything about it because me not spending doesnt matter at all since some whale is spending x10 of what i ever would

the game has not even been released. if you think that all customization will be locked behind a paywall youre delusional and very impatient. its been 3 days and were in the beta, not everything is available. there will be hundreds and thousands of customizable options. just, be, patient.

I bet half the people complaining on the forums already bought the battlepass, and the other half will buy the battlepass as soon as their complaints are addressed.

You are all your own worst enemy. You won’t speak with your wallet, and companies only listen to wallets.

It has been, this is a multiplayer soft launch ahead of schedule, if ypu read any of the articles you would know this is called a beta so they can fix technical issues, this is how it would have launched come december 8th. Im holding onto a little faith but as of this moment, the game shows little promise to actually provide me with content that isnt paywalled in some form.
Im not against spending money, i dropped like 1k on apex because i love that game, but it provides me alternatives to spending cash, this does not

I bought the campaign, thats it, i held off on the pass because i knew it was going to suck. Why do you think you know me? I voting with my voice and my wallet, i can do both.

Like it or not, the community whining and moaning about this is seen by the community managers, at the end of the day our feedback is being heard and thats all its need to be, if something positive can come of it then we will keep pushing back against this in a vocal way, staying silent about the issue gets nothing done.

what’s depressing to me is that people don’t just play games to enjoy them, they need battlepass xp or a stupid costume because they want to feel rewarded. sad times.

Another non argument that adds nothing to the conversation

Yeah I really don’t like how they made the game free to play. It’s kinda ruined alot of the game for me. Also the lag is horrendous. The power weapons mostly suck. Controller aiming feels off. Graphics look cheap and unpolished I mean those effects…yikes, 2007 called they want their graphics back.
