18 meter radar is almost useless

Just wanted to know how other players feel about the 18 meter radar. I would constantly get surprised by someone shooting on my back even if they were in the same room as me, making it almost useless for non-stealth combat, I would love to have the usual 25 meter radar back, at least to be facing in the direction of my opponent once they enter the same room as me, with all this high mobility going on. Real life boats on the year 2000 have a better radar than futuristic Spartans on the year 2500 lol. Any one else feel the same way? Or nay?

Definitely, you put it pretty succinctly. Radar feels pretty much useless at the current range with the speed Spartans can move around them map with sprinting or tools like the grappleshot. Especially with the low time to kill in infinite, if someone gets the drop on you because of the radar not picking up the spartan that just basically walked in the door 10 feet behind you then you are most likely not going to win that firefight, at least in my experience so far.

For some reason 18 meters didn’t feel like 18 meters. It felt like I was getting 10-12 meters near people before the radar would ping us. It could definitely use some range tweaks, especially with the slightly quicker time-to-kill.

Bring back the classic Halo 3/Reach motion tracker!

You outline a couple key points and perhaps reasons why the first flight’s radar was different.

Radar definitely felt like less of a tool for me as well this flight. I would agree that 25m would be a nice range to test. But I feel like the big issue is surrounding enhanced mobility and just how fast someone can close a gap and virtually flash from out of radar in. I feel like that may be tricky to balance. I did notice that the edges of the radar would indicate an enemy slightly out of range, but when you can grappleshot into someone’s face, it doesn’t matter. I’d be curious to see if/how they address this cause I’m not quite sure what the solution is. I’m not sure 25m would solve it.

With this radar being only 18 meters and a SPARTAN is ~2 meters tall the radar tells you less than you can see with your own eyes out in the open. For example around the edges of Behemoth where the map is more open and flat, radar will not reveal enemy SPARTANs you can see with your own two eyes.

Bump it up for social, leave it, remove it or modify it for ranked. I think this would be the ideal scenario.

I personally like it the way it is since it is useful enough to save my -Yoink- but not overly powerful, though I can understand that it is much smaller than previous Halos. I wouldn’t mind if it got a range buff nor if it stayed the same.

343 once again contradicting themselves….

I totally agree, in bazar, if you were in one of the bar rooms where BR spawns, players on the middle balcony thing are not visible in radar. It does seem like a 10 meter radar. Seemed like slayer pro at times, no radar at all.

The motion tracker is definitely useless at 18m, please bring back 25m motion tracker as it was in other halos! It may be ok in pro playlists (which usually turn it off completely) but it has no place in regular matches. It’s not fun playing against sweaty kids that sneak up on you SPRINTING.

Agree. I’ve made the case for making the radar behave like the motion sensor of previous games instead of the combat sensor we had last flight. But I was shocked that I couldn’t see people on the radar I feel like I should’ve been able to. Increase to 22-25 makes a lot more sense.

I think radar is horrible in FPS games. I know it’s kind of a staple in Halo, but why do people insist on constantly looking at the corner of their screen? I rather pay attention to what’s going on in the middle of my screen personally.

I vote get rid of it!

Seriously though, why is it needed? If you have an objective then you don’t need to worry about campers.

Seems you are new to halo, but welcome to the game where “sometimes” someone spawns right behind you

I hope they don’t make it anymore powerful than it is.

They do get rid of it in pro gametypes, which is fine, pro gametypes are based on team communication, but in other playlists people play with no mics, few communicate what is happening to others, and a full party of players can rip you a new one without something as useful as a motion sensor.
The motion sensor has been an integral part of every Halo (shooter ones) ever created. It makes combat more balanced, discouraging people just blindly rushing an objective, stealth is rewarded and rushing without a strategy or a good weapon usually ends with that player (or even team) dead.

I hope you are joking lol

What if, crazy idea, it worked like it did in the first flight.

I absolutely agree, I would suggest 30 meters
I enjoy when people expect each other. Less free kills.
I know 25, is the general opinion, but considering it’s 18m now, which feels like 10, I think I’d want more than a 7m increase.

They need to bring back the flight 1 radar and increase the range to 25m
