…why? What purpose could losing one round possibly serve? this will only cause the dmr to lose one kill, this won’t affect balance. Honestly, who ever at 343 came up with this change should be fired for the pure pointlessness of it. I know that I might be making a bit of a big deal about one round, but i just don’t see why it had to lose one round. As I said, it wont make much of a difference(thus the pointlessness of losing one round).
Hopefully it makes more sense than what Bungie did with the H3 needler (20 rounds to 19 for no apparent reason).

Going up to 21 would have made sense.
Prob cause the Br isn’t 3 kill per clip either.
They’ll lose one round? Then just reload. If the player gets killed while reloading to compensate for one less round, then it’s their fault and they should watch their surroundings. I’m all for keeping it at 14 rounds. It balances the weapon, since it’s so powerful, and now it’ll be slighlty less powerful due to a smaller magazine.
BR kills 2 guys/clip, DMR kilsl 2 guys/clip, bet AR does the same. Balance guys, adding 1 extra round to DMR would make no sense, they would have to increase the mag of all weapons in that case to make it “even” once again.
Better reload or use your secondary ^^
> Prob cause the Br isn’t 3 ill per clip either.
Add nine rounds to the BR’s magazine, problem solved. Losing one round makes no difference though, the dmr still can make more kills, one round doesn’t change that. The dmr will still beat the BR even with one round gone(thus the pointlessness of taking one round out of the magazine).

One round won’t make a difference in power or balance. It still has more room for error than the BR. Btw, the carbine can make 3 kills a magazine, should it lose rounds too?

Its all about balance to 343i. This bit of news solidifies the fact that the BR will remain a 5 shot weapon. And that means at a 5sk BR can only kill 2 per clip and they had to balance the DMR to being able to only kill 2 people also. Otherwise the DMR would be more OP than it already is.
Well, the original DMR was a 12 shot kill, and it was fine. Actually I liked it more that way because there was slightly less spam.
But anyway, it’s probably because the BR can’t score 3 kills in one clip, so why should the DMR be able to if it’s already more overall powerful?
Why do you guys always think you know better than the designers who have hands on with the game?

The Carbine has never been able to score 3 kills in a Magazine. In fact, in Halo 2 and 3 it only carried enough shots for EXACTLY 2 kills per magazine, and unfortunately you almost ALWAYS missed at least one shot, turning it into a 1 kill, then reload type of weapon.

true, very true. but since the carbine is now a six shot kill(although I have heard that it has been toned down now, so its probably either slower or a 7 shot kill) with an 18 round magazine. although its not likely to get 3 kills a magazine, it is still possible(Although the carbine has always been a spamming weapon, which is why I liked the NR better, it felt more like a highly precise DMR weapon).

So reload then. It’s only a second to reload. Rarely is it a deal, unless you’re one of those people who has to melee during a reload because it’s sooo long and you need to reduce the animation by 0.1 of a second.
Reloading should be a factor in combat, knowing when to reload and when not to. Whenever I use the AR in Reach, I’m always careful with my ammo count. Constantly thinking about when to reload and when to keep firing. There have been moments where I make the wrong decision, I reload when I shouldn’t have or tried to keep firing when I should have reloaded. I keep an eye on my surroundings, thinking about how I should use cover and whether I should duck behind a wall, reload, then come out firing again.
Think about it in terms of the whole sandbox. At first I felt irritated just like you did and it seemed like the most arbitrary change but then I thought about the Light Rifle. From what I could tell from the E3 gameplay the Lightrifle had 15rounds and a bit faster rof at least unscoped.
So lets take a guess and say the Light Rifle is a 6 shot kill, with a 15 round mag, and a slightly higher rof compared to the DMR. That would likely put its effective range just behind the DMR.
So in terms of effective range: BR-Carbine-Light Rifle-DMR.
Thinking about the overall picture I don’t have much of an issue.

who says the designers always know whats better. Everyone remember the Reach Banshee bomb?
Being that I’m going into video game design, they did it for a reason, I’m sure. It was probably what they did to balance out the weapons so that they would equal each other. It surely has to be for pure balance. They wouldn’t change the clip size for no reason. Although to everyone else it doesn’t really make sense or a difference to remove one round from a clip, it makes complete sense to me.

This is why I liked the Beta Magnum. Forcing a more common reload really adds to the skill gap, and prevents bullet spam. And the Beta Magnum was more than powerful enough to compete, and with skill surpass the DMR. But you ONLY got 8 shots, on a 5-8 shot kill. Meaning miss a shot, and you have to hit the head. Miss the head, and you’re reloading. But if you perfected it, you had a BEAST in your hands.
The Grenade Launcher is another great example of this. Learn to use the weapon and you can make a kill per shot, sometimes more than one at a time. Screw up? Have fun reloading.
> > Why do you guys always think you know better than the designers who have hands on with the game?
…because I understand how balance works?? And Im pretty good at shooters so I dont complain that things are OP or fine just because im bad at them.
And asking for balance because all I want is a fair playing field that way the better player wins every time.
Crazy I know.
