How is the xbox live trial activated?

Why not just buy a year of live for $35 from New Egg or something? Various sites have them on sale for $30-$35 all the time.
There’s a code with the digital delux just scroll to the bottom I think community and it’s a option for the 14 day trial it opens up explorer and u have to sign into your account and activate it…
If you have a Kinect say “Xbox, redeem a code” and if you don’t then I think there’s the option in the Store tab. Instructions are on the back of the card.
