Make sure that it wasn’t pre-owned (like from a garage sale), because it probably was already used. Also make sure you have your Xbox live account (Microsoft account) logged in the same profile as your gold trial. Make sure you have a strong internet connection, and I used a new gift card code and had to re enter it twice so try that, then again I was using a gift card. I guess if none of these work, contact Microsoft because all these ideas are just from my experience. Good Luck!

It’s quite possible that your code was already used. If the silver backing has been scratched out, then I’m afraid it has been used. You will need to get a fresh xbox gold card to use.
