That must be a typo because Infinite does not do 4k at 120fps on a Series X. You have the choice of 4K at 60 or 1440/1080 at 120fps. The system itself is not strong enough to do 4K at 120 on any game.

You do need HDMI 2.1 which isn’t super common yet

Aaaa. That might be why I have not been seeing the 4k at 120. TBH I have no idea why most of the sites also are saying that Infinite cannot do 4k 120.

Do you know anything about PC’s? let’s say you have windows display options set to 3840x2160 and your refresh rate set to 120Hz. Now you open a game but you’re only getting 80ish fps and you want 120fps. You have some options to adjust settings in that game to hit 120fps but the biggest option for sure is to lower the resolution. This is what Halo Infinite is doing to get 120fps on console, it’s dropping graphic settings and internal resolution. Just because you have your Xbox set to output 4k120, that doesn’t mean your game is running 3840x2160 @ 120fps.

You also get a dips in both frames and resolution at those settings on the Xbox. I would rather have 1080 at locked 120 than 4K at unlocked 120 for online. But I would like to get close to 4k 120 for story mode. Dude above brought up some info I was not aware of before.

Word. That’s the Xbox settings. What if the game settings are saying that the output is at 4K 120. Mind you, I’m still on the boat that the Series X is not capable of a smooth 4k 120 on any game.

You don’t know what the game settings are. Only if the dev say what they are but, digital foundry has the tools and they already done so. Just look them up on YouTube and watch their videos.

I’ve already seen that video and stated how it is odd that despite what this dude said, no credible sources have said anything about this game being 4k at 120. You have given me zero new information and are assuming a whole lot of wrong things from what little I have said…

Well, my TV tells me what it’s putting out and it says it is usually running at 4K 119 fps, sometimes dipping down to 105. But whatever, you do you. Believe what you want.

Believe what I want? I know what I know. Halo is not running 4k @ 120hz. Your TV is telling you 4k because that is what you have your Xbox set to. It’s not what the game is running.

  • Runs at a dynamic 1080p resolution with a common dip to 972p.
  • The FPS is capped to 30FPS.
  • There is no choice between quality or performance modes.

Xbox One X

  • It runs at dynamic 4K resolution with a common dip to 1800p and 30FPS cap in quality mode.
  • Runs at dynamic 1440p resolution with a common dip to 1260p, and the FPS is capped at 60FPS in performance mode.

Xbox Series S

  • In quality mode, it runs at a dynamic 1080p resolution with a common dip to 1080p, and the FPS is capped at 30FPS.
  • In performance mode, it runs at a dynamic 1080p resolution with a common dip to 1080p, and the FPS is capped at 60FPS.

Xbox Series X

  • In quality mode, it runs at a dynamic 4K resolution with a common dip to 1800p, and there is a 60FPS cap.
  • In performance mode, it hits a dynamic 1440p resolution with a common dip to 1188p. Meanwhile, the FPS peaks at 120FPS but mostly holds between 100 and 120FPS.
