Hey 343, I know you’re in “Super Crunchy Cap’n Crunch Time” with Halo 4, but would you mind upping the default movement speed in TU playlists up to 110% with the next update? Here’s a couple of reasons why I think 110% speed improves gameplay:
- Strafing becomes more important in DMR fights. This opens up a new dimension of gameplay in DMR fights, making them more fun and intense.
- Dodging grenades becomes more viable. The large blast radius of grenades in Reach often means that even if you know a grenade is coming, you can’t avoid taking damage because you simply can’t move fast enough to avoid it. With 110% movement speed, you have a better chance of avoiding taking that tiny amount of damage that keeps your shields from recharging.
- Faster movement speed increases the pace of the game, which is more fun. Reach in particular has suffered from slow paced combat, though many of the TU changes have helped that.
> Faster movement speed increases the pace of the game, which is more fun.
Speed =/= more fun automatically. That’s the thought process those dudebros that drive fast cars over the speed limit think of.
110 speed + 110 jump height + sprint only

In this case I agree with OP. They slowed gameplay down moving from H3 to Reach and I don’t think that was a good thing. I’d go farther than OP though and request 120% and removal of Sprint.

I didn’t find the game slower at all. In fact, because of the influence of CoD, I think slowing down games for appreciation is better then trying to outdo each other and dumbing down gaming in general.
Definitely agree OP, nice thread. Reach should’ve had faster game-play and this would make Reach more fun for a lot of people.
At least add 110% speed and 110% jump, Sprint-only for Arena.
I would play it ALOT more.
I’d be cool with just the jump height increasing… >_<

Would be nice to have this for the rest of REACH …

Wait, you think strafing is dumb?

I’ll take what I can get from 343i who still has yet to implement AA pickups in for a few gametype/map combinations.

What am I reading here?
Increase the speed, then Hologram breaks.
Your points are well made OP but honestly I think you exaggerate the effect a 10% increase in speed will have. As strafing is more of being unpredictable rather than speed it won’t affect that a great deal. Grenades don’t usually kill unless they are really well placed anyway, if you are being killed by just a grenade then most likely you could have avoided it.
Also to other posters stop whining about AAs. We are discussing the effects of varied movement speed not posting what AAs we want removed.
> Increase the speed, then Hologram breaks.
Who uses Hologram?
Why does everyone say halo 3 is faster? Have you even played halo 3 recently?
Its like jumping around and moving on the moon. I really end up missing sprint when i play halo 3.
Anyway i thought someone proved that reach is the same speed as halo 2 or something accounting for the bigger FOV.

Its not huge in Arena?

Hologram is used in The Arena, but not nearly as much as Sprint. I’m pretty sure he was trying to make a joke.
> Anyway i thought someone proved that reach is the same speed as halo 2 or something accounting for the bigger FOV.
Nope. Due to a larger POV and smaller player model, speeds higher than 110% seem faster than they would in other Halos (Reach’s speed IS slower than Halo 3’s).
That statement was made in regard to the movement changes done for the original Team Classic playlist, and I’m the one who wrote it.
