How has your matchmaking experience changed? Please indicate whether it has improved, stayed the same, or worsened? - What is your NAT type? (Xbox One dashboard -> Settings -> Network -> NAT type)- Were you searching alone or in a party? How many were in the party?- Which playlists were you searching in?
We thank you for your continued patience as we work to resolve these issues.
For me I think it works a little bit better.
Nat-Type is open.
Searched for Team-Showdown and H2A Rumble.
Found a game in about 1 min. Mostly even teams. No full lobbys.
In-Game Connection seems to be a little bit better too. Less lags.
Some lobby crashes after a completed game. Some disconnects while searching for a game.
So it’s better than before I think, but still not (very)good.
My matching making experience has improved tremendously. My party stays together on the first game. However still lag as it seems we are playing P2P instead of dedicated servers- My NAT is open- My party found people quickly when it was 2 or 3, but when we had a party of 4 it took about 2 minutes- Team SlayerThe issue I see is after each game we get split up, so we have to back out and re-join our party. Also, the party never stays together when the leader backs out.
Matchmaking experience I feel has greatly worsened. As compared to before, I now can’t seem to find any players even after spending several minutes in a playlist.
NAT type is open
Was/am searching alone
Playlists I’ve searched in(so far): Team Halo 2 Anniversary, Halo Championship Series, Team Slayer.
(I don’t know if this is important but I was forced out of campaign cut scene when I got the update, though I at least got the achievement…)
I miss playing online… X (
(Update: 11/27 - Am finding players in 1-5 minutes, so far everything is good)
Seems quicker to me, I just don’t understand why matches start with uneven player counts… And then I finally get into a nice 4v4 Team BR’s on Sanctuary. Should be perfect, right? Nope. Match was so laggy I had to quit.
UI is still buggy, showing both “Connection Lost” and a “Player Details” page from the post game carnage report underneath the main menu…

So we are beta testing this software now…?
Wow…
Dear 343i, pay someone to do this work for you. Because, as it is now, I have paid $60 for the honour of testing this software for you.
That is not how betas work and you know it.
I am trying to be diplomatic about it because you chaps are trying your best…
I will report back with some answers to your questions.
NAT Type: Open - DMZ + Port Triggering + Firewall and QoS Disabled
Party of 2
Playlist: H2 Classic & Team Slayer
Definitely less need to quit and relaunch the game it seems, but still 15-30min to find a game that does not: Have the session leader fall back to main menu and start controlling the whole MM lobby unknowingly Kick one of us from the lobby or the search Crash while loading the map or upon the game first starting
This new first bug is a serious issue and is entirely novel with this latest build. (the one where someone is a ghosted session leader and we can see him fiddling with the menus)
The bug where you hear the “Halo 2 flag can’t be returned” sound repeatedly during map loading and then the game crashing seems to be partially resolved.
It is in fact a little easier to join again with a friend after one of you has been backed out or booted, but it is much less predictable now whether it will work. Still the case where joining a friend or accepting an invite while in a ‘bugged’ state will not have you join but the leader can click on your name in the roster and have options to boot player or promote to lobby leader is there (ghost joining glitch). Still very prevalent and now harder to tell/predict when it is happening like I mentioned above.
Before you go tackling all the really hairy bugs could you please consider these. As a coder I can guess that these shouldn’t be any major feats of engineering and would really help:
In order of likely difficulty:
Option to disable menu music
Halo 2 Emblems in-game instead of defaulting to target symbols
Halo 3 controller scheme that simply swaps RB and X from original H3 default. (X is action/reload, RB is equipment)
Mic Indicators and In-a-party Indicators in lobby screens
Halo 2 Emblems lighting up white for who’s talking (same way they light up yellow and red for other activity)
Halo 2 name of person speaking flickering in white text above the clock on bottom right (see original Halo 2 HUD for these last two things)
Just make matchmaking Max 8 players OR Party Size Max 5. Pick one of these at least?
I do not envy the engineering team right now! Please keep trying. Don’t be too proud or scared to ask for help when you’re not sure about something too! That’s not the Jedi way
Medals are displaying. Matchmaking times have slightly improved. Did have one instance of a full lobby that would NOT load a game/move into map voting stage. Another game ended prematurely (55-41 score on Big Team Slayer with no game time out). Entered post-game with status “game over” (not “X team wins” or “match incomplete”). Games feel more balanced and entering with full teams.
-Searching alone
-NAT Open
-Big Team/Team Slayer
-Austin, Texas
I was searching in Big Team Battle, then switched to Halo 3.
Search times are slightly better, but every time I search for a match somebody is made party leader and when they innevitably leave they take everybody with them.
Open NAT
Searching has team of 2 and team of 4
Wait time - Approx 4-6 minutes
HCS Playlist
Teams were unfair for the 3 games we got. Party did not get split up though, until AFTER the game.
Every single game, party leader would back out to lobby and nobody would follow. Other players would then try to join and could not. Reboot the game to try again.
It’s sad that they said in the update that they fixed this portion and it is clearly still broken. I guess since they SEMI improved the match making wait times, thats enough to “improve” in 2 weeks time while everything else is still very broken.
Mine got worse. Before the update I was getting into games about every 5 min or so. I got in 1 game so far toady after the update, otherwise I have been trying for over an hour to get into 1 game.
Seemed better at first as i got the first few games quickly and with 3 players in the party. it is still waiting way to long to start a match once the lobby has 8 or more players in it though.
3 players
Halo 2 classic, HCS, H2A
wait time of 30 seconds to 2 minutes, better than before.
Game lobby filled up quickly.
later on we ran into trouble…
2 players
halo 2 classic
sat there saying 'Players found" for maybe 3 minutes, then said “searching for more players” shortly after that it said Connecting Session then booted out my teammate. A minute after that it was still saying connecting session so i left the lobby.
2 Players
H2A
Started lobby saying “Players Found” but stayed in that state for 5 minutes with no progress. eventually filled up with 8 players, then starting searching for players again and eventually said match found after getting one more player in the lobby. There were 8 in the lobby for a solid minute! just stop searching and start the game!
anyway, overall it seems to have helped, but still needs some work.
Searched for a few minutes and we got separated so we both backed out and it looked like we brought the whole lobby. Tried backing out again and game froze.
How has your matchmaking experience changed? worsened
Finds players faster. but many more failures
Can’t do big battle or Halo 2 classic. Gets stuck on creating teams every time. every time.
Loses connection on halo 2 anniversary and gets kicked to main menu
Halo 2 anniversary also gets stuck on creating teams but not every time
What is your NAT type open
3 people in party with 2 on split screen
