10 Things I think Halo Infinite's campaign needs

I usually do not post on forums but given the recent news regarding Halo Infinite I thought I would chime in. I like many others have been becoming increasingly worried while still trying to remain optimistic about the recent news. I really want to see this game succeed and I understand that everyone has their own opinion on how this can be accomplished.

Regarding the campaign I would be most pleased to see the following

  1. Halo 3/Reach style designs for enemies
  2. Halo 3/Reach style skybox,
  3. Graphic aspects from Halo CE anniversary, Halo 2, and 3
  4. A mix of Halo 3, 4 and 5 gameplay styles (players can approach missions to suite their own play style)
  5. Different variations of enemies (ex different jackal sub types, variations in Brutes/ elites, grunts etc
  6. Variations in UNSC/ Banished vehicles
  7. CLASSIC and New Weapons at launch (especially if this is a open world or a semi open world sandbox game on next gen hardware…)
  8. A Mature rating. I yearn for a return to the classic blood/gore from the original trilogy… Especially if the game is Halo CE inspired and is rumored to have a flood presence. Also considering the dark history regarding Zeta Halo.
  9. A game that is polished, not rushed, feels, sounds and looks like Halo ( Think Halo CE and 3)
  10. Delay If needed!!

Now the list above posted is just my take on what I personally would like to see in regards to Halo Infinite’s campaign.
Let me know what you think.

I’m actually alright with the Infinite brutes though they do need work with regards to colours etc (maybe don’t make the red as bright as it is) and add scratches to the armour. I don’t think we need so much hair as it is expensive to render though maybe some on the face like Halo 3 would be nice. They also do need facial expressions of some kind as my boy Craig needs to be angry when he’s getting shot at (who wouldn’t).

Gameplay wise, based on the demo I was alright with how it played (though removal of classic weapons disappoints me).

Overall, I agree with your list  especially the last point. If the game is not ready, delay it Microsoft/343! I get the pandemic has made things difficult and some of the devs may have lost loved one due to COVID 19. However, especially to the management or upper ranks, please don’t force your devs to crunch the game out to force it to be ready by November filled with bugs (mistakes will pop up in code when you’re trying to work on 4 hrs of sleep). If anything, the pandemic is all the more reason to delay the game. It also will hopefully allow flighting and the game can only benefit from constructive feedback.

An example is the raytracing update which they said will be after launch. Would it not be better to just delay the game and then have raytracing implemented so the game looks its best?

A delayed game is eventually good, a rushed game is forever bad.

As I’ve mentioned on a few other threads, I never have understood why Halo has been ever given the M rating in the US. In the UK and Europe it’s always been rated 16. Like the swearing has never been too bad and the only thing is literally the violence.

Edit: I know some may say it’s been 5 years since a mainstream Halo game and they can’t wait but given the strange times we find ourselves in. I think these extenuating circumstances would warrant a delay. After all CD Projekt Red did it with Cyberpunk why not do the same with Infinite? I think it’s fair to say, we’ve waited this long, we can wait a little longer. Also if anything, delaying it may prove better in terms of sales as there’s a lot of other anticipated games coming out in November this year.

In addition, there are people who are saying that the Xbox One (Day One edition) is holding back the game and whilst I think it’s certainly true to an extent, at the same time there have been graphically excellent games like Red Dead Redemption 2 as well as games that have had stylistic art styles but look good like Ori.

Now preliminary work began for RDR2 began after the first game in 2010 with scripts complete in about 2012. The time between the scripts having been written and the final game was about 5-6 years (2012-2018). Now this was with severe crunch time of several 100 hr weeks (for reference there’s 168 hrs in a week, you can do the maths from there) and it still took that long.

Contrast this with Infinite. 5 years but taking time to develope an entirely new engine and testing it in addition to story rewrites due to backlash from Halo 5’s campaign and throw in the pandemic, what state would you expect the game to be in?
I’m not saying Infinite can’t be good nor am I expecting it to be anywhere near the level of say RDR2, Cyberpunk or GTA V. However, if a delay is beneficial for the game and the welfare of the developers as well as possibly be more profitable, how can it be a bad thing?

Here are the 10 things I want to see in Halo Infinite:

  1. Halo Infinite gameplay having a similar style like Halo Reach, Halo Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST and Halo 4.

  2. Open world gameplay in Halo Infinite especially in a style of the God of War 2018 video game.

  3. Exploring the Zeta Halo Ring in Halo Infinite.

  4. Master Chief meet the UNSC Marines in Halo Infinite.

  5. Classic weapons from the previous Halo video games coming back in Halo Infinite.

  6. Chips Dubbo and Sergeant Stacker coming back in Halo Infinite.

  7. ODST Troopers, Ellen Anders and James Cutter appearing in Halo Infinite.

  8. Setting up future stories in Halo Infinite especially the next 10 years plan for Halo.

  9. Fix the graphics in Halo Infinite.

  10. Build up to the fight between Master Chief and Atriox in future Halo video games.
