10,000+ Halo reviews on amazon *SPOILER*

I love Halo. Check my service record and XBL gamertag if you want. I’ve played almost nothing but Halo for the last 14 years. I’ve read all the books. I’ve taken time off work for Halo releases. Etc, etc. I have over 100,000 kills in 3, 4, and Reach alone (it could be near 1/4 million with all CE LANs, CE PC, H2 on my 1st GT, and TMCC combined). I had all Halo achievements prior to TMCC and my Halo gamerscore is currently 15,195.

This is the worst Halo of the series. I’ve tried for the last 3 weeks to like it (and should I even have to try?). But I guess it’s just finally sinking in that 343 has turned Master Chief into a pathetic old Spartan who “is not emotionally equipped” to deal with Cortana. And Cortana is now the supreme evil dictator of the galaxy. I understand its their story to do with as they please, but what exactly were they trying to accomplish by painting the 2 main characters of the last 14 years in such a bad light? And I hated playing as Locke just as much as I hated playing as an elite in H2.

The core of the multiplayer isn’t that bad. Although infinite sprint still really bothers me. So does shoulder charge and ground pound. But whatever, at least everyone has them. The area H5 has failed at the most in multiplayer is that none of my friends want to play it. I’ve been playing Halo with these people over XBL and at their houses for 14 years! They used to love Halo! Most of them got H5, but I can’t get any of them to play it! It’s really nothing like any other Halo when you compare aiming, radar, movement abilities, ADS, etc. Yeah, it takes some getting used to. And, yes, games are supposed to “evolve”. But when it becomes unrecognizable is it even Halo anymore? And don’t even get me started on the fact that we as a community have already supported H5 with almost half a billion dollars! And we can’t even get a dev made BTB map at launch??

Anyways, it was for these reasons I gave H5 1 star on Amazon. Turns out I wasn’t the only one. Here’s all the Amazon reviews for all the FPS Halos for your reading pleasure.

Halo CE 1,892 reviews 4.6 out of 5 stars

Halo 2 1,217 reviews 4.3 out of 5 stars

Halo 3 975 reviews 4.3 out of 5 stars

Halo ODST 733 reviews 3.9 out of 5 stars

Halo Reach 1,367 reviews 4.4 out of 5 stars

Halo 4 2,814 reviews 4.4 out of 5 stars

Halo 5 1,078 reviews 2.8 out of 5 stars

Yes, I know a lot of them are 1 star for split screen. But people are entitled to their opinion. And if SS is that important to them that they’ll go to the trouble of writing a review, then that counts for something! (And H5 really could’ve used the free hype from SS right about now!) I trust a multitude of fans opinions way more than one single guy writing for a video game website who is either being paid to be critical or is trying to impress someone else in the industry. I personally feel like all of these ratings are justified.

Oh god you’re one of those people. Most of the people who give the game 1 star are either complete babies or complete trolls. So the question is, which one are you?

What is Amazon?

I wasn’t aware that 1000 ratings from parents pissed off about split-screen represented the millions of people who bought this game. Also, you call yourself a massive halo fan, yet you refer to the Arbiter as “that elite”.

Also, this is the site where 90% of the reviews are: “Great product”, “Fast shipping, great price”, “I love this game!”, “My kid loves this!”, “Little Timmy can’t put it down”, “Grandson loves it!”, “A HIDEO KOJIMA GAME!!!?!!!”. I could care less about the score they give, what they write to validate that rating matters more, and that’s exactly what most people on that site fail to do. A lot of the reviews are “Great game, but there’s no splitscreen so it’s garbage-1 star”, and what is with people seeking validation for their opinions through others?

Oh no, the game’s getting a bad review on a completely irrelevant website. I guess I should stop playing then

Yeah OP. This might be the worst Halo in terms of story but its multiplayer is much more fun than Halo 4.

Shh don’t say that, the arbiter leaves an arbiter taste in Bungie’s mouth!

Find new friends.

I gave it two stars. The gunplay is solid, but the movement mechanics are awful. The story is meh, but the storytelling is awful. The driving is great, but ADS/smartscope is uncomfortable. Overall, it’s less than what I expect from a Halo game.

I have been playing Halo just about as long as you. My Halo gamer score is 14330. I could give two yoinks about internet reviews. To many will give one star for any little thing they happen not to like. I thought H5 was great. Yeah the campaign felt a bit short but that is a trend with all games now. The story was great, while it didn’t exactly match as advertised, it was still good. While shocking it’s not surprising that Cortana is doing what she is doing. She was made from Dr. Halsey who headed up the Spartan program which was essentially doing wrong for the greater good, just as Cortana thinks what she is doing will be for the greater good. Also to say H5 doesn’t play like previous titles is false. It very much plays like H4 and Reach somewhat. I use the H4 button layout and it feels exactly like H4. Also yeah there was changes to some of the game play and mechanics but every title in Halo brought that. H5 was a step in the right direction from H4 IMO

It’s a forest

If you think the amazon reviews are bad, you should see metacritic. With an 8.4 critic review score and an embarrassing 6.6 user score, it is the lowest ranked game in the series. For a AAA title that used to sell consoles that 6.6 is unacceptable. But it is apparent this generation is about microtransactions and DLC instead of story rich coop games.

Lol at how you typed a lengthy paragraph validating yourself. I think halo 5 is awesome and the best since 3 and the most balanced dice CE. I’m going to trust my opinion over the 1001 people saying its bad. Haven’t checked my service record but that’s probably how many people I’ve destroyed in slayer.

I agree entirely, OP.

Except for the part about Arbiter. Playing his levels was sweet.

“Complete babies or complete trolls.”
So what do we call all the people giving the game 5 stars saying it’s the best evar, and then downvoting anything negative, just to shut it out?

The OP wrote a detailed and comprehensive review. Just b/c it’s negative the fanboys get their -Yoink!- in a wad. The average review rating at Amazon is in line with other review sites, even the core gaming sites. Halo 5 is mediocre overall.

^^^ This. The aggregate review of Amazon is just as spot on as the gaming review sites. Overall players are pretty disappointed.

Need another metric… I stated playing with 8 friends on release day and in less than 2 week I’m the only one left. Even the friends I made while playing are gone.

The fail of yesterday’s update simply proves this Halo won’t go the distance.
