1 YEAR AGO: HOW DID YOU PREP FOR HALO 5's RELEASE?

So, what were you doing a year ago tonight as we were all looking forward unto dawn and the game’s release?

Cannot believe it’s been a YEAR since I watched the time crawl by until my Halo 5 console arrived the next day. The mind-melting hype, the feeling of dropping into Warzone for the first time, and all of the ups/downs and good/bad on post-release road since: taken altogether, what an incredible ride this game has been. Despite playing countless shooters, I have never had the confidence to really get into a FPS PvP scene before, and Halo 5 will always hold a special place in my heart for being the very first PvP experience where I cared about unlocking stuff, progressing, reading forums, and actually getting positive k-d ratios in some matches.

We’ve been thrilled and enraged, calm killers and shouting victims, game defenders and critics. But ultimately we’ve pushed Halo itself towards an overall awesome experience, and I’m very very glad to have played with you all!

Well, looking back at my outlook calendar I apparently spent the night in the emergency room waiting to have a knife removed from my foot. I know that isn’t halo related, but you did ask.

Debated heart-ing that, but why not. So the kill log for your night was AreYouKiddingMe knife comedyshermitsFoot?

I was probably watching car videos on youtube. I had fallen out of Halo at the time. I didnt come back until early this year

no, it actually happened. Straight through the heel of right foot. Drove myself to the emergency room too. Another funny thing is the nurse who was registering people asked what was wrong and I told her I was ‘correcting her carpet patterns.’ and pointed down. She didn’t find it as funny as I did it might have been because the floor was tile. As a benefit after I got out at 2 AM I called off and when I woke up my copy was on my porch.

I waited a few days after people played it to make sure it actually worked. Didn’t want to get burned by another MCC.

I was at work preparing a network connection for my Xbox because I knew a big update would be necessary for installing the game and I didn’t want to wait till I got home to do it the next day.

I waited in anticipation to play it after school.

I didn’t own an Xbone at the time Halo 5 was released, and I wasn’t about to spend $500+$60 to play one video game, even though I liked Halo. But then my friend’s friend told me he was going to send me an extra Xbone he had laying around.

So at that point, I was like, ok everyone shut up about Halo 5 until I get this Xbone because I don’t want anything spoiled. I was a little late but my friend and his friend both played it a lot so they helped me out in the beginning. Fun times.

I pre order, so a week before release downloaded it, tried to play, denied. Next day tried, denied. This went on until the last minute ticked down, then had to wait for the first update to download. Once it was all done, played until it was time to go to work. Yes I was late for work.

with a big bag of uhmmm green stuff

My friends and I were excited for the game. It sounded like Halo was going back to its roots, so we were extra jacked. Turns out that wasn’t really the case unfortunately :frowning: Some of us stuck with it, others didn’t for numerous reasons. Our excitement turned more into “it’s not a bad game, but it’s not amazing” Everyone was tired of the huge updates though, even day one had a huge “update” per say. I had to drive to my girlfriend’s house to get it because she has unlimited internet and quicker speed and I was close to my data limit for the month lol but we all thought “shouldn’t have this stuff been in launch?!?!”

This year a lot of them are getting the new BF1,TF2 and some still play that awful (IMO lol) COD series. Since I’m the registered Halo information guy, lol I am to update them when Halo 6 is getting close and what I think of it thus far. So now we wait…

I had school at 8 am on the day Halo 5 came out, so instead of just going to the midnight release and getting very little sleep or waiting until I got out of school to get the game, I broke my sleep schedule a few days before release so that I would wake up at like 5 in the afternoon. I stayed up all night, picked up the game, played it a bit, then went to school. I was determined to play Halo 5 that night no matter what

I used to go all-out for releases. With Reach and the original Skyrim, I made a list of what I was gonna do when I got the game
Example:

  1. Go to midnight release
  2. Come home with game
  3. Set up legendary statue
  4. Sleep
  5. Wake up and look at Forge World
    and so on

I still have the list for either Skyrim or Reach, but I lost one of them some time ago. If I don’t make a list, I just think every day about what I’m gonna do once I get the game, which just makes me wanna play the game even more and in turn, I’m miserable until I finally get it XD

Well I didn’t do too much other than sit at home and run errands till it arrived at my door. Was excited to jump into the game immediately, but guess what? Need to wait for that update to download and install…

Probably smart. Unfortunately my hype settings do not have clench protection so…

Best way to be late for work, especially if you see another bleary-eyed person whom you discover as a co-release night gamer.

That’s actually a good idea to change up a sleep schedule in anticipation. I’ve always been so tired halfway through a release night gaming session that it’s not even fully enjoyable anymore.

I bought an Xbox ONE for the MCC, still in anticipation for H5. However, a month prior to release, I requested 10/27 off for a “doctors appointment”. I spent the night prior and that entire day playing (and beating) Halo 5, per tradition since the release of Halo 2.

Yes, we oracles have a sacred duty. They might actually be happy to know about the big customization Req pack out today for people logging in.

YES! I stand and applaud you. Marathon-ing the Halo campaign is indeed a bedrock tradition to pass on to those who come after.
