I would suggest switching your control scheme to “Recon” or “Bumper Jumper” but play on whatever you feel the most comfortable with. Everybody has a different play style.

I concur. I use default, but “Recon” control scheme is the best, but like Avenger said, it depends on your play style.
Also, OP, as a friendly tip, there was no need to post 4 threads on different questions, if you could’ve made it easier by putting all the questions here: 2. Armor 3. Lag 4. Which Buttons Do What?
I use default and if you ask me what each button does I would have to say that I have no clue.
I know how you feel about not being good at War Games at this moment but you really shouldn’t drag yourself down. I was terrible when I first started playing Halo and being close to 3000 matches in Halo 4 and over 5000 playing Reach I still find myself struggling in certain playlists.
> Bumper Jumper is the most versatile IMO the unless you like AAs, I prefer the ability to punch/jump over the ability to use abilities.
This is true.
I love Bumper Jumper, but switched to Green Thumb because I like having the AA on a shoulder button.
My #1 tip for improving (I had huge improvement in scores after doing this) is use Resupply and chuck those grenades like there is no tomorrow. If you die with grenades in stock you are doing it wrong. So much easier taking people out if you weakened them with some crafty grenades around the corner first.
Then run over his dead body and get ready for the next guy.
if u wan’t to be the guy with good movement, i would take bumper jumper.
i switched from default to bumper jumper, and since im accustomed to it, I’m better in BR duels etc.
though the change from one controller setting to another is pretty frustrating in the very first hours
As someone who has played using the “bumper jumper” layout since Halo 3 I would suggest not using it. Stick with “default” if you’re comfortable with it.
In Infinity gametypes it is extremely important to be able to use jet pack and aim at the same time, which is rather difficult with “bumper jumper”.

unless u are not using jetpack or thruster pack, bumper jumper is the better choice.
Bumper Jumper is by far superior in my opinion. The ability to aim while jumping is very beneficial and will do wonders in playlists such as SWAT and Team Snipers.
However as others have stated, Jet Pack is a thing, a useful ability at that. Bumper Jumper makes using the Jet Pack near impossible (try aiming with your finger on the x button). I personally use Bumper Jumper because I was a big SWAT player. I never really enjoyed using Jet Pack nor found it useful for my incredibly aggressive game style.
Bumper Jumper as stated allows you to aim while jumping, this means your fingers will almost always be on the two sticks. Unlike Default, Bumper Jumper uses the left stick for crouching as opposed to Sprinting which is pretty brilliant. Incorporating a crouch into your strafe or Ghandi hopping makes you a very hard player to hit. With Default you are required to take you thumb off the right stick in order to press B.
That all said I doubt or at least really hope the Jet Pack doesn’t return as a loadout option in Halo 5 because it breaks map control ect (not discussing why now). For this reason and that I found it incredibly beneficial to my gameplay, I would recommend giving it a good go. Getting used to it now is better than starting in Halo 5 should you give it a go.
To be honest I don’t really think there is a “best” controller scheme and sensitivity. I see pro players using a pretty wide range of settings (and by that I mean 2-3). Play on whatever you feel comfortable. As for sensitivity, I would not recommend going anything above 5. Anything above and you are likely going to have an incredibly hard time winning 1v1 battles. Aiming is much more essential than being able to turn in a split second. I personally use 4. As for Crouching behavior, I personally use “Hold to Crouch”. When incorporating crouches into your gameplay (strafing ect) I find it much more convenient. I don’t really see much use in Toggle Crouch outside of making Spring Jumps slightly easier.

I’m assuming he’s going to be playing mostly infinity settings, in which case it would be unwise to not use a jet pack.

i’m playing much better with regeneration shield. with jetpack u are an easy target since everyone shots u out of the air and u can’t dodge anything, unless your opponents aren’t completely planless.
i admit i used it in reach, since it was completely new and somehow not as annoying as in h4.

Recon is my personal favorite.
Bumper Jumper is for tryhards (I kid, don’t get mad).
But more importantly it’s like Avenger said, just use whatever makes you comfortable.

this is very effective for 1vs1, though i’m still having trouble to aim correctly while crouching, so i still leave the crouch movement in 1vs1 out most of the time, even if this was the actual reason why i switched to bj
