A visible ranking system would be great! We have waited long enough for just a ranking system, so why not make it the best it can be??? Usually the people who do not want it are the ones who complaining about not being good enough and being made fun of…GROW UP!!!

Because of how crazy this page got, I am making a poll! It seems pretty even right now just by looking at the comments.

Also call me dumb, but I just thought of us. So everyone says that the people who want a visible 1-50 “competitive players” are the minority. There is still atleast 5,000-10,000 of us who want it. So why not put it in one playlist??? Between 5,000-10,000 players in one playlist, thats bigger than 3/4’s of most of the halo4 playlists!

i was told you could see your trueskill on waypoint but i have yet to discover it.

This is their major reason for no “VISIBLE IN GAME” ranks. Mostly because statistical when it came down to it late 40 to 50’s showed that the skill factor was thrown completely out the window due to boosting and buying. It was not a accurate scale of skill. Blame the community if they didn’t cheat or glitch to get to 50 and just used the ranking like it was supposed to be used it would still be in the game.

Your spelling and grammar are leading me to the conclusion that you’re twelve. Why does it matter if there is a visual ranking system or not? That doesn’t change how the game plays. In Halo 3 people would boost to get a higher rank, which in reality meant nothing. It promotes people to achieve a high rank through questionable and unfair means, and I already see enough lag-switching and such as it is, so in my opinion the game doesn’t need another incentive for people to play unfairly.

CSR (competitive skill rank) doesn’t come out until January. More people would know this if the announcement was still stickied, but I digress.

we agree

That link is with quite old information.

Hopefully 343i sticks to their beliefs and does not change that stance.

I agree that having a visible ranking system is utter and complete nonsense.

Its sole purpose is to appease those with self esteem issues. They should be instead reaching out for help with their self esteem then trying to live vicariously through a video game.

Just saying.

This post on the Bungie.org forums from ages ago sums up pretty succinctly all the myriad problems with TrueSkill-based ranking in Halo 2/3, as well as the all-too-common misconceptions about what it’s mean to represent and be used for:

It’s a long-ish read, but it’s a very good, insightful bit of info - well worth a look, IMO.

I laugh every time I see a thread saying they want a visible 1-50 ranking system. It’s not going to happen…

For every one person who wants to see their “skill” rank next to their name in Halo 4, there are about 100 who couldn’t give 2 -Yoink-, and actually find it a little demoralizing.

There maybe those who want to see how good they are compared to others, but there are many who don’t want to see how bad they are compared to others.

And as I’m sure you’re aware, we’re in noob-friendly Halo now. So it will never happen.

So does anyone know what matchmaking system (if any) is in place now? Sometimes it seems almost random when I get placed in games with noobs vs. those who piss on my grave.

I posted something similiar to what I am about to say in another thread on this topic.

I am all in favor of visible skill based ranking. Heck, I miss it a lot. However, in Halo 4’s case I think a 1-50 system would end up being a “buyer’s remorse” situation. Why? The game is lacking even 1 competitive playlist. Add to that all the randomness, JIP, Insta-respawn, Aim Assist etc etc and what would the point of a 1-50 be?

Seriously, what would it actually rank? How much luck one has with random ord drops? Tbh, I think for a 1-50 visible skill based ranking system to be viable for Halo 4 it would have to undergo a serious TU.

In the TU they either need a CSR or expand the XP ranks, otherwise there’s not much to do here. Unlike Reach where it took forever to hit Inheritor we were seeing 130s less than a month after the release.

Amazing read.

Thank you for that.

Thanks for posting that. While its mostly stuff I already knew, it does a great job of tying it all together and relating the evolution of the visble ranking to each game. Good stuff there, and should be required reading for anyone clamoring for the Halo 3 ranking system.

what if another company buys halo and do it as competitive as halo 2 was … that would be absolutely amazing.

Actually every multiplayer game (regardless of title, be it COD, Gears of war, etc.) on Xbox Live uses TrueSkill to match you up. Developers just don’t use it visibly in their games any more…

Ugh… please read how wrong you are:

Or not.
It’s been made painfully obvious that having the 1-50 system helped the game more than it hindered it. Have fun living in ignorance.

Or not.

Its been made painfully obvious that having the 1-50 system was a detriment to essential game functions that outweighed the positives of it. Have fun living in ignorance.

Bottom line: majority of bad players don’t want to know how bad they are. The majority of good players like seeing how good they can get. The bad players outnumber the good (naturally) and so there ya go, bungie caved in and 343 has too.

Not to mention, those who work at 343 are mostly bad at their own game
