Everyone hates when people quit in the middle of the game, and Bungie and 343i have shown that they feel the same way.So wouldn’t having a 1-50 system for the ranked playlists give people a reason not to quit?
With a visual true skill system players wouldn’t want to lose their rank so, they will probably stay in games.
For social playlists it would also make sense to be able to join in progress to replace quitters.
Yes. But every playlist will probably be social where you can join in progress anyway…

But if they include Ranked playlists they would have to do normal MM for said playlists like in GoW3

Normal MM??
People will quit anyway and even more frecuently with the Join in progress option

I’m afraid they actually put in a rank system, but you can join session in progress for ranked matches, that would be a big mistake.

Join in progress would hopefully not be for ranked matches.
Mandatory loss of rank for any quitting would be ideal…
This includes any disconnects, or power loss. If you have a sketchy connection or an approaching thunderstorm it would be recommended to stay in social.

Normal Matchmaking=Halo 2, 3, and Reach

Ah I’m with you. Yeah, they absolutely should have ranked playlists in normal MM… But I’ve got the feeling it will be all social playlists in ‘join in progress’ MM

Wouldn’t people use that for deranking though?
No it wont.
Or at least; for every reason you think it will prevent quitting will create just as many new reasons to quit.
“Oh, My team is going to lose and I’m not going to rank up/I am going to de-rank anyway, so why should I keep playing?”

In H2 and H3, you didnt always rank down when you lost, so if you were guaranteed to rank down when you quit, people would stick it out because they may not go down.
Joining in session option cures this quitting disease…
Yeah, like no one quit in Halo 2-3 ranked matches…
Fail logic.

How is it failed logic? Obviously you can’t get 100% to stay in game, but I bet more people stayed in games in H2 and H3.
I don’t know with the 1-50 system as is with no improvements will still have derankers trolling everyone though with join in progress…
I mean it can still be a problem because what if the system chooses a deranker for that guy who was playing but D/C? ;o
There is another reason why a lot of players (the casual side of course) don’t want it back and i can sympathize with this: The elitism used in discussions in forums and during the game. You didn’t have a 50, you had no say and you were terrible. Even if you understood competitive play but were not very good/decent you would be told this. Hate messages online included.
Reach isn’t so bad because Arena is a joke but you’ll get the occasional 1 percent Onyx and his overblown ego ruining the day. Not all of them are like that but i’ve seen it on this forum.
Thats why a lot of casuals from Halo 3 that have stuck around don’t want it back. It takes away from the enjoyment of the game for them (face it; they are much as part of this game as we are).
However, i don’t think we should let that get in the way of a ranking system that works and evolves the given concepts we’d been given thus far (while getting rid of -Yoink- that didn’t work). You can’t do nothing about jerks except ignore but you have to please both hardcore and casual.

Actually, in my experience, more people would quit.
You know why?
They didn’t want to lose their rank.
I know this because when I quit more than a couple ranked games in a row, I stayed at 41.
But if I lost a couple games in a row, my rank would surely go down.
So, failed logic.

SO you are saying that if you were guaranteed to lose a rank in H4 if you quit you’d still leave the game?
