Every time I head onto the Halo 4 forum there is at least one thread on the main page about bringing back the old ranking system from H2/H3. I think I’ve come up with a good compromise with the 1-50 mixed with Reach’s cR system.
Ok so first off, if you don’t know what the 1-50 ranking system is, we’ll tell you. It was a ranking system used in Halo 2/Halo 3 based on your skill rank. The way it worked was if you won a game, you would get 1 exp. If you lost a game, you would lose 1 exp. This encouraged people to work together as a team and actually try to win, instead of going Lone Wolf style like so many do in Reach. Depending on your rank would determine how much exp you would need to rank up. You skill and rank would basically be ranked on a scale of 1-50 over your time of playing.
Now in Reach, we have it a little different. In Reach we have a credit system. This is where you earn credits through playing game modes to rank up and it didn’t matter weather you won or not. You still got credits. Kind of like Call of Duty in a sense. With these credits you could buy armors, attachments, effects, and firefight voices that you unlock through you rank. As your rank increased, so ddi the prices. This encouraged people to play Matchmaking and nothing else, boosting, etc. This killed custom games and the spirit of what made Halo, well… Halo.
The credit system isn’t all bad though… it’s actually a smart and fun way to buy things in the Armory. With that said, here is my compromise.
It would be a lot like Call of Duty: Black Ops. I know, a CoD game! But here me out. In Black Ops players we rewarded money to buy their items with separate from the exp they earned. My idea is quite similar. If we take the 1-50 ranking system and just use it for leveling up like we did in the past Halos, but also added in the credit system as a way to get armors, firefight voices, and effects into the game.
Now you might be saying to yourself, but how does that fix the problem of people being to distracted into Matchmaking? Well, in my idea at start a good portion of the armory would be unlocked and buyable already, to reasonable prices of course (something Reach did not have). The rest would be unlocked through simple challenges like, play so and so games of firefight. Easy but fun to do with friends to unlock armors, yah know? They would also be unlocked through achievements. Once unlocked through challenge/achievements, you do not have to buy them, as they are already bought for you (no money taken from your credits of course). Maybe there might be a 343i exclusive armor that will cause the Recon epidemic all over again too? Who knows.
So that’s basically a summary of my idea, what do you think?
