1-50 Rank System>This LOL Copy Paste Garbage

Even Halo Reach had a better ranking system than this, although let’s not forget 343i didn’t even put a ranking system in Halo 4 until a 9 months later AND YOU COULDN’T SEE IT IN GAME. This game is being handled by a developer that does not understand competitive gaming. Bungie’s casualfest Destiny at least has Trials of Osiris and Iron Banner and this is the crap we get?

I like the current ranking system. The matchmaking could use a little work though.

At least 343 Industries understands competitive gaming much better than the new Bungie.

Destiny has a bigger competitive gaming community in than 343i has ever had.

Because it’s casual, has less of a skill gap, and runs on two major platforms rather than one.

I never know whether people mean that their preference is for numbers over tiers with names or whether they’re expressing a preference for the simpler trueskill system that generated the 1-50 ranks in Halo 3 rather than for the more complex system which determines rank in Halo 5. From my perspective the descriptor applied to rank (“23” or “gold 2”) is absolutely meaningless. The system behind the descriptors is not, but judging the systems by the results they generate (balanced and competitive matches) then I’d have to give them both pretty low marks. I give some credit to the new system for periodically re-setting - absolutely necessary in my opinion if you want to curb some of the worst kinds of system manipulation - and also for keeping ranks invisible in the pre-game lobby. They need to be available at some point as a check on the credibility of the system, but they shouldn’t be used as a psychological weapon before a match has even started.

Bungie employee- hey I have a good idea let’s give everyone shotguns and snipers
Bungie boss- "claps " you get promoted to lead designer.

They are literally the same thing with different names.

Reach didn’t have a ranking system… It was the same credit based bs halo 4 used except it just took longer to max out than H4s. Halo 5 xp system is pretty much the Reach system except H5 uses numbers… a SR152 is an inheritor pretty much. Now i did like the 1-50 skill based rank more than Halo 5’s CSR system, bronze through champion… but it is growing on me some.

i do prefer a simple 1-50 ranked system, but i do have to admit i like the new system as well. It has grown on me some, and for the time being it is fine.

The Arena in Halo 5 was inspired by the Arena in Halo Reach.
