I would like to know if any handheld human weapons in the Halo universe can exceed or match the 1,200 rpm of the German MG-42 machine gun?
The SAW sounds to me the most likely weapon, though I don’t know its exact rpm.

They can far exceed it. There’s none in the games, but there’s a portable version of the venerable M247 GPMG that can atain 2000 RPM. The main issue is; no one needs THAT MUCH LEAD shoved downrange.
That was the main issue with the MG42; it ate through its ammo belt so bloody fast it had to reload practically every other minute.
And if you wanna talk magnetically accelerated weaponry, well…there’s a mag-turret that can fire 3200 rounds a minute.

Honestly, when you’re dealing with the Covenant, you sort of do need that much lead downrange.

Agreed. If UNSC weapons tore through shields like plasma weaponry I’m sure the Spartans would appreciate it.
